Job Description

We are looking for a Designer for our first CG animated TV series! !! We can’t say much about it now, just that we are thrilled to start building our future in television with this preschool series. If you have experience designing sets & environments, as well as vehicles and props, then you should apply!!

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Create strong set/environment designs and set breakdowns consistent with the show’s look and feel.
Create strong vehicle and prop designs consistent with the show’s look and feel.
Utilize previous design experience to design environments which hit the quality bar, and vision of the original production designer, and the goals of the production.
Note feedback and revise designs as defined by the productions Art Director as necessary.
Research visual reference material to inform designs.
Liaise with the film’s modeling department and modeling supervisor to realize set designs for 3D creation.
Stay up to date with Pre-Viz developments and the shaping of the shots/sequences, noting and discussing set issues.
Communicate regularly and proactively with the design team, and modeling team to ensure that designs are production-friendly
Raise potential design issues with the Modeling, FX and Animation departments
Meet or beat design deadlines
Proactively update the Art Director as the to status of tasks

QUALIFICATIONS

5+ years in graphic design / set design
BA/BFA Degree in Fine Arts or Commercial Arts Field an asset
Must have strong 2-D set/location/background design experience
Must have worked on at least 3 productions (feature preferred)
A strong understanding of design and the issues inherent in creating compelling set designs for a 3D production
3-D design and modeling experience an asset.
Must possess excellent communication, interpersonal, and multi-tasking skills.

Layout Artist

Job Description

Layout artists are hot commodities here!! We are hiring Layout artists (all levels) for multiple projects!! Are you ready to make all elements needed in a shot fully prepped and ready for animation? Can you translate storyboards into polish frames, camera angles and lighting of an animation scene? If you answered yes.. then you should apply!

PRIMARY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Under the leadership of the Supervisor, the Layout Artist reviews scene folders making sure all necessary assets are ready for integration into the shot.
Swaps out proxy models for final low-resolution animation ready models.
Checks and references elements to make sure proper versions are used.
Cross references that shots are cut to length. Collaborates with editorial to check for continuity between scenes.
Collaborates with Pre-visualization Artists to ensure technical parameters for accuracy such as camera angles, focal lengths and composition are met.
Interprets and implements notes and feedback from the Supervisor in a timely and qualitatively acceptable way.
Under the guidance of the supervisor, creatively plus material in order to achieve set standards of complexity.
Collaborates with animators to ensure all elements are included and set-up as required.
Delivers assignments per project’s schedules.
Adheres to digital file management protocols.

Interacts respectfully and professionally with colleagues, staff members and clients.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

Degree and/or diploma in fine arts or animation or equivalent experience required.
DVD Production

2-3+ years of experience working in a professional environment within their discipline.
Feature Film Production
4-6+ years of experience working in a professional environment within their discipline.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Solid knowledge of camera composition and good sense of aesthetics.
Proficiency in using Maya is required.
Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely.
Practices attentive and active listening. Incorporates feedback and direction received from the Director/Supervisor.
Open to and encourages feedback and new initiatives. Shares information and techniques with team members.

Creature Facial TD

Are you a wizard at making faces? A pro at facial shapes, rigging and weighting? Then we have a great job for you as a Creature Facial TD!

Under the guidance of the Lead or Department Supervisor, on a CG animated film, the Creature Facial TD is responsible for providing facial shapes, rigging and weighting of characters.

PRIMARY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Tasked with building a range of facial expressions, the Creature Facial TD designs and maintains facial rigs.
He/she has an in-depth knowledge of modeling and animation and must be able to create optimal tools which facilitate the Animator’s work.
Supports Animators with rig issues and works with TD’s and Developers on character rig optimization.
Creates scripts in Python allowing for automation of specific tasks.
Provides support and documentation for tools created.
Meets or exceeds the deadlines as set out by the Production and Rigging schedules.
Interprets and implements notes and feedback form the Lead in a timely and qualitatively acceptable way.
Attends regular production and department meetings.
Maintains leading-edge proprietary tools/plugins/scripts.
Maintains contacts with academia/industry to keep current on new research and recent developments. Reads relevant journal, conference and technical articles.
Completes assignments on schedule. Prioritizes task completion in coordination with production and technical support staff and technical animators.

Interacts respectfully and professionally with colleagues, staff members and clients.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

Degree and/or diploma in fine arts or animation or equivalent experience is required.
Advanced degree in Computing Science, Mathematics Physics or related disciplines is an asset.
DVD Production

2-3+ years of experience working in a professional environment within their discipline is required.
Feature Film Production
4-6+ years of experience working in a professional environment within their discipline.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Working knowledge of geometry creation, weighting and facial rigging is required. Modelling experience is a valuable asset.
Production knowledge of Maya, Python and MEL is required.
Skills in using Blendshapes are required.
Basic knowledge of UNIX/LINUX procedural and object-oriented programming languages.
Basic artistic skills; demonstrable ability to make creative and aesthetic judgment calls.
Knowledge of CG Feature Animation.
Ability to communicate and/or demonstrate ideas. Practices attentive and active listening. Incorporates feedback and direction received from Leads and/or Supervisor.
Makes decisions in a timely manner. Accepts accountability for own actions. Creatively solves problems, eliminates roadblocks and focuses on issue at hand.
