Job Description

Senior Artist – Project Lead (12 Month Contract)

Rebellion Oxford is seeking an experienced, talented and enthusiastic hands-on Lead Artist to lead the art team on one of our exciting new projects. This is a truly exciting opportunity to have huge creative influence over forthcoming game titles.
In addition to demonstrating strong aesthetic flare and vision, the successful candidate will also need to work closely with the development team, ensuring that artwork is supporting the design process, is technically compliant and is respecting the project’s schedules.
The Lead Artist will guide a dedicated team of environment artists as well as having access to many more artists with other specialist skills and knowledge at Rebellion.
This role will initially be a 12 month full-time employed contract role (not freelance or agency) based in-house at our Oxford head-studio.
For the right person there are great prospects for this contract to be extended in future and/or to transition into a permanent in-house role. You must be able to legally work in the UK.

Experience:

At least 3 years’ games industry art experience is required including 1 year in a senior or lead role. Having completed a full production cycle on a published game title would be a bonus. Please include a link to your portfolio of examples demonstrating outstanding visual and technical ability.

Responsibilities:

– Overall responsibility for all artwork required on a specific Rebellion game project
– Hands-on contribution to artwork
– Inspire and motivate the art team to achieve their best, driving artistic quality by example and successful team work, giving feedback and direction where needed
– Work closely with other disciplines of the development team to overcome issues and produce the best game titles
– Plan and structure tasks with efficiency
– Understand and work within project requirements and constraints
– Keep up to date with game artwork trends and influences

Skills:

– Excellent artistic ability and direction, with strong and responsible leadership
– Highly experienced and knowledgeable in Photoshop and a 3d package such as 3dsMax or Maya
– Excellent understanding of all art aspects required for 3d games, including environments, characters, 2D/GUI and animation
– Good understanding of the game development process as a whole, including technical limitations and opportunities

– Ability to take the initiative, be highly disciplined and self-motivated
– Collaborate productively within a multi-disciplined team environment, including designers and coders, communicating with both technical and non-technical staff across disciplines
– Knowledge of other software such as ZBrush, After Effects, Illustrator, Video editing etc is a bonus
– Additional knowledge of traditional arts, photography, sculpting etc may further support your application
– A genuine interest in playing games

Senior Animator

Senior Animator (12 Month Contract)

Rebellion Oxford is currently seeking an experienced and accomplished Senior Animator to join our in-house animation team to work on exciting new game projects. Demonstrating a passion for creating convincing character animation the successful candidate will be highly motivated and able to contribute positively to game development. This is a great opportunity to work within Europe’s largest independent game developer using cutting edge technology to create highly successful game titles.
This role will initially be a 12 month full-time employed contract role (not freelance or agency) based in-house at our Oxford head-studio. For the right person there are great prospects for this contract to be extended in future and/or to transition into a permanent in-house role. You must be able to legally work in the UK.

Experience:

We need someone with a minimum of 3 years’ games industry experience in animation, including organising and directing motion capture shoots. You will have worked on at least 2 published titles and at least one full game production cycle from project inception to publication. Any animation leadership experience would be an advantage as this role may develop further as our animation team grows.

Responsibilities:

– Produce in-game animations for a variety of games to the highest standards of fidelity and style as demanded by the project
– Additionally produce animations for in-game narrative cut-scenes and marketing trailers
– Work with the animation team, demonstrating strong time management skills to ensure tasks are completed on schedule to required standard
– Work effectively with other team disciplines (Art, Design & Code) to ensure the animation process is responding to the demands of the project whilst maintaining its aesthetic quality
– Continuation of your technical knowledge, including adapting to new technologies and processes

Skills:

– Excellent knowledge of animating using a 3d package such as 3dMax and/or Maya, with outstanding animation skills demonstrating knowledge and application of weight, timing, pace, poses and storytelling
– Excellent understanding of how animation must work in harmony with the game design
– Motion capture direction and fluent clean-up and use of motion capture data
– Sound understanding of technical innovations that could be used to improve animation systems
– Genuine passion for animation, bringing characters to life with realistic human and animal motion, and for playing computer games
– Any knowledge of 3dMax scripting, Python, C, C++would be a distinct advantage, as would use of any proprietary game engines such as Unreal

Rebellion Oxford are currently looking for an enthusiastic GUI Designer devoted to building intuitive, cutting-edge user interface experiences for games on all current platforms. The successful applicant will understand the importance of usability and visual communication, be self-driven and talented, with a genuine interest in playing games.
This is a full-time role based in-house at our Oxford headquarters, on an initial 6-12 months employed contract basis (not freelance or agency). You must be able to legally work in the UK.

Experience:

Experience of implementing graphical user interfaces, awareness of best selling games and the graphical styles they employ. Some game industry experience is preferred but not essential, print or web-layout experience will also be considered.

Responsibilities:

– Work closely with a GUI Artist to design and implement 2D front-end game interfaces and in-game display HUDs
– Work closely with each project’s design team to ensure menus and interface reflect the overarching goals of the title in the most intuitive fashion
– Streamline and implement logical menu flow and function of interfaces
– Work with technical artists and tools programmers to improve efficiency of workflow
– Work to a functional and aesthetic brief within technical platform constraints/limitations and ensure publisher/platform compliancy
– Document processes and task tracking, with great attention to detail
– Research new tools, techniques and processes and how they can benefit Rebellion
– Collaborate productively within larger multi-disciplined project team environments, communicating ideas and issues clearly
– Work effectively with minimal levels of guidance, prioritising and scheduling your own work
– Be responsive to deadlines and work well under pressure, meeting multiple production objectives and deadlines

Skills:

– Great knowledge of flow and function of game interfaces, user interface design and game navigation
– Skilled in GUI design and layouts
– Knowledge of game engines and artist tools
– Detail-orientated with a logical, structured approach
– Excellent initiative, self-motivation, communication, organisational and problem solving skills, as well as team-working and the ability to accept and follow direction
– Ability to grasp new concepts and tools quickly

Mid-Senior Environment Artists For SE3

Rebellion is looking for experienced environment artists to join our Sniper Elite 3 teams in both our Oxford and our Liverpool (Runcorn) offices. You will need to be passionate about creating spectacular and convincing environments for games, talented and highly-motivated, with a genuine interest in playing games.
This role is full-time based in-house at our Oxford or Runcorn studios, initially for approx 9 months on a temporary employed contract basis (not freelance or agency) but with the possibility of future extension and/or transition into a permanent in-house role. You must be able to legally work in the UK.
Experience:
At least 3 years’ industry experience modelling, texturing and lighting game environments is required. Experience of a full PS3 and/or Xbox 360 production cycle, from beginning to end, on at least 1 published game would be preferred.
Please include a link to your portfolio of examples demonstrating outstanding visual and technical ability, high-resolution modelling in Max and/or Z-brush, and normal mapped game environments.

Responsibilities:

– Create models of 3D environments, map predefined textures, create new textures and light environments for Rebellion games
– Create artwork to the highest visual quality whilst working efficiently to time and memory budgets
– Work to a functional and aesthetic brief, within technical constraints
– Be responsive to deadlines and work well under pressure
– Collaborate productively within a multi-disciplined team environment
– Work effectively and prioritise own tasks

Skills:

– Expert ability with 3d Studio Max and Adobe Photoshop
– Create normal maps using 3ds Max, Photoshop, ZBrush or CrazyBump
– First-class texture creation skills including a comprehensive knowledge of multi-layered material/shader effects
– Model and texture both high and low polygon environments, including terrain, buildings and props
– Strong technical understanding of console limitations and knowledge of efficient artwork techniques
– Strong UV mapping skills with efficient layouts
– Strong understanding of form, composition, colour and light in environments and architecture
– Ideally able to demonstrate understanding of real-time lighting and HDR techniques and their application in games. Understanding of particle systems would also be an advantage
– Ability to translate concept and reference artwork into 3D game assets
– Good communication skills, willingness to accept and follow direction
