Character Animator (Feature Film) “The Book of Life” – ANIMATION

Job Summary

THIS POSITION IS FOR OUR DALLAS LOCATION ONLY!!

We are currently hiring for our action-packed CG animated feature that tells the story of a Romeo and Juliet style love story set against a Mexican “Day of the Dead” back drop directed by Jorge Gutierrez (”El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera”) and produced by Guillermo de Toro!

The Animator is responsible for bringing characters to life by creating performances based off the storyboards and layout to the Directors vision. We are looking for proactive, ambitious, self-starters who are excited to work for a growing company.

Duties and Responsibilities

· Create lip-sync, facial, and body character animation as well as prop animation
· Partner with the Director, Animation Supervisor and other staff in order to understand and execute creative direction
· Maintain high quality and productivity throughout projects
· Communicate work status to the Animation Supervisor and Production Management staff
· Attend dailies, accurately address critique and comments from supervisors, and complete revisions in a timely manner
· Consistently meet production deadlines

Education and Experience Requirements

Requires some experience in Feature Film and/or Commercial production with an emphasis on animation
· Strong demonstration of animation principles, timing, and acting choices
· Ability to create broad and subtle styles of animation
· Proficient with Maya
· Ability to work in a team environment and take direction
· Ability to provide feedback to other artists
· Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
· A creative problem solver who is organized and critical of his or her own work.
· A history of consistent high-end aesthetic and technical execution

3D Effects Supervisor (Feature Film) – ANIMATION

Job Summary

This is for our DALLAS Location ONLY!

Under general supervision of Visual Effects Supervisor(s) this position reviews concept art, storyboards, and rough animation to plan and execute the simulations and special effects needed for an animated feature film.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Simulate natural phenomenon by applying direct and procedural animation techniques to create a variety of effects.
• Creation of procedural systems to generate static and or animated geometry.
• Rendering and compositing of effects elements.
• Supervise and give input on 3D effects elements.
• Create and improve tools for pipeline process.
• Creation of toolsets for specific simulation / procedural geometry generation tasks.
• Support supervisors and team members with technical and artistic challenges.
• Work directly with production team and Visual Effects Supervisor(s) to create the desired look for show effects.
• Assist producers with feature animation bidding process.
• Evaluation of artists for annual performance reviews.
• Act as mentor to Artists and Leads.
• Insure delivery of all department projects by working closely with show department supervisors and production management.
• Evaluate and review departmental workflows and methods for department projects.
• Evaluation, development, and maintenance of department pipeline and toolset.
• Work directly with CG supervisor, producers and upper management to insure hardware and software needs for department and active projects.
• Interact directly with software providers regarding resolution of technical issues in software.
• Setup and manage software and tool demonstrations for team.
• Lead departmental meetings to review current state of company, projects, and team with departmental crew.
• Interview potential candidates for project and team hires.
• Create and manage issues/ tool request at a project and department level.
• Work directly with all departments to insure proper delivery to and from effects department

Education and Experience Requirements

Technical Qualifications:
• Expert understanding of all aspects of Houdini.
• Expert understanding of Maya.
• Expert understanding of Nuke.
• Expert understanding of Object oriented Python, Hscript, and Mel.
• Expert understanding of C++.

Qualification:

• Degree/diploma in fine arts or animation or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 5 years production experience in film or television effects.
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
• Ability to work in a team based structure.
• Able to thrive in a high pressure, deadline oriented environment.
• Able to follow directions well.

Sr. Flame Artist – COMMERCIAL

Job Summary

This position is available in our Dallas location only.

The Senior Flame Artist is responsible for delivering Flame/Inferno based compositing for high-end commercial and film jobs. The Senior Flame Artist will work within a team including some combination of VFX Supervisors, Designers, CG Artists, Motion Graphics Artists, and Producers.

Duties and Responsibilities

•Demonstrate a creative vision to meet client’s needs and to constantly push the quality and innovation of our imagery and processes
•Work with Producers to analyze methodology and bid projects based on input from clients
•Explore creative concepts and ideas and ensure their execution in a wide range of styles, as mandated by clients, deadlines and project objectives
•Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of live action, CG and compositing production methods and techniques
•Contribute a profound sense of aesthetics, including composition, camerawork, color, typography and style
•Maintain an active awareness of current trends in commercial/design work, and drive yourself and the team to push beyond them
•Expand our team’s creative capabilities and vision through continued experimentation, research and professional development

Education and Experience Requirements

•In-depth knowledge and experience with Autodesk’s Flame/Inferno compositing software
•In-depth knowledge and experience with Autodesk’s Lustre software and Control Surface
•A good eye for color, composition and detail combined with a strong understanding of CG processes and digital pipelines
•Superior client interaction skills
•On set shoot supervision experience with a broad knowledge of photographic and optical effects techniques a plus
•Strong production experience in one or more of the following production tools is a plus: Maya, mental ray, Nuke, Photoshop, After Effects
•In-depth understanding of commercial productions, from ad agency boards, to bidding, to analyzing methodologies, to assembling the team to execution of the final product

Assistant Editor (Feature Film) – ANIMATION

Job Summary

THIS IS FOR OUR DALLAS LOCATION!

The Assistant Editor works with the 1st Asst Editor and Editors to provide editorial support to the production through the management of the project.

Duties and Responsibilities

Interacts with editorial, production team members and post facilities, ensuring good communication exchange and sharing of edit information.
Participates in preparation and organization of editorial materials related to the film such as story reels, work prints, previews and tape outputs.
Ingests, logs and organizes all production and scratch dialogue, making it available to Editors and Production as required.
Assists in organizing, storing, handing and lining up digital and photographic elements.
Organizes directories and files in logical organized manner.
During production, imports test, secondary and final animation.
Provide timing and cut info to production management and disseminate out to the crew as directed.

Education and Experience Requirements

Advanced knowledge of AVID Media Composer
Advanced knowledge of digital workflows
Additional software proficiencies (Adobe Photoshop/After Effects, Microsoft Office)
Strong multi-tasking capabilities

Commercial Pipeline Software Engineer – COMMERCIAL

Job Summary

The Commercial Pipeline Software Engineer will work closely with the Commercial leads as well as the Entertainment-division (Feature Animation) Pipeline Engineers to support the needs of the Commercial department.

This is a unique role within the Production Technology department as the successful candidate will have to understand the entire scope of the Pipeline architecture, as he/she will likely be dabbling in all areas and at all levels of the code.

The successful candidate should also have a strong understanding of the entire production process and how artists use various tools and move data or images through the pipeline – especially as it relates to the fast turnaround of Commercial projects.

Initially this is a development position – but as time goes on the support aspect of the job will grow as you will be the one maintaining the code as well as supporting the entire Commercial department’s needs at a deeper level than our Technical Directors – with whom you will have close working relationships. The Commercial Pipeline Software-Engineer must work well in a team-oriented production environment, where daily proactive problem solving and technical innovation are expected.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Studies patterns and trends, identifies common technical problems in a production, and recommends/implements new processes or workflows to address those problems.
• Identifies tool development needs and works directly with leads, artists and within the Production Technology group to define requirements, develop and test prototypes and develop end solutions. Monitors the handoffs between departments and identifies problematic areas or process bottle-necks: examples include transition from modeling to texturing, ingestion of animation data into lighting and integration of visual effects into final lighting scenes
• Collaborates with other technical directors and software developers, attends regular production technology team meetings and serves an active role in the direction of the studio pipeline.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science.
• 3+ years production experience. Commercial or short-form experience is a plus.
• Ability to operate as a self-starter, able to serve as a self-sufficient technical overseer on a project
• Experience with production renderers such as Renderman, Mantra or Vray.
• Thorough knowledge of CG production workflow and methodologies.
• Knowledge of: Maya, Houdini, Nuke, RV
• Thorough knowledge of Python and Mel
• Thorough knowledge of Linux
• Knowledge of Cinema4D, Modo and Mac a plus
• Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of personalities.
• Engages artists with a positive attitude and encourages feedback on solutions.
• Ability to manage time and balance priorities, sometimes amidst the pressures of our busy, deadline-driven industry.
• C, C++, Bash-scripting coding skills
• Git repo, test suites for coding, regression tests etc.
