Environment Supervisor – Feature Film – DALLAS Location – ANIMATION

Job Summary

The Environment Supervisor oversees the creation of our digital environments including placement of terrain, set dressing, and procedural flora. He or she reports to the Visual Effects Supervisor and Digital Supervisor and is responsible for establishing the environment look of the film. The Environment Supervisor works with the environment team to establish a best practice workflow for efficient asset and assembly creation, render testing, optimizing, and publishing environments to the pipeline for shot propagation. The environment supervisor works with the Modeling Department, Surfacing Department, Look Development Department, and Lighting Department to create the look of production environments. The Environment Supervisor works closely with the Layout Supervisor to establish composition and maintain continuity.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Supervises Procedural Flora Artists and Set Dressing Artists
• Experienced “eye” to efficiently drive look and composition
• Accountable for efficient, on schedule delivery of composed environments for approval.
• Responsible for composing and delivering optimized elements and assemblies that have been render tested and published to shot
• Working closely with layout supervisor to maintain continuity and shot to shot hook-up
• Manages and strives to improve department process, workflow, and guidelines
• Accountable for cross communication and collaboration with downstream departments
• Identification of production challenges and understanding of viable simplifications
• Evaluation of process and removal of pipeline bottlenecks and inefficiencies
• Understanding Pipeline Development and working with the Technical Department to identify potential efficiency development and support strategy
• Team Management Skills Including: Studio culture, Conflict resolution, Individual contributor abilities,Task prioritization, Training | Recruiting
• Supervisor is responsible for the establishment of accurate bids as well as meeting schedules and show deadlines, participates in dailies, rounds and team reviews of work in progress.
• Identifying Resource needs based on individual contributor strengths and technical considerations
• Works closely with Production Management to determine production budget, resources, and scope

Education and Experience Requirements

• 5+ years minimum experience in Animated Feature Films
• Good artistic eye for detail with ability to create a fleshed-out look to match various references
• Extensive experience with Layout or Look Development in feature films
• Experience in procedural terrain generation
• Detail oriented with ability to handle the complexity of our pipeline
• Ability to solve problems independently and take initiative
• Ability to work well in a team setting
• Experience with 3D paint packages
• Background in visual arts desired

Job Summary

Under general supervision of the VFX Supervisor, this position reviews concept art, storyboards, and rough animation to plan and execute the simulations and special effects needed for a shot.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist bidding project bidding process
• Assist in evaluation of Artists for annual performance reviews
• Simulate natural phenomenon by applying direct and procedural animation techniques to create a variety of effects
• Supervise and give input on 3D effects elements
• Supervise and communicate animation timing for effects to Artists
• Work with production team and VFX Supervisor to create the desired look for the effect
• Improve tools for pipeline process
• Act as mentor to Artists

Education and Experience Requirements

• Project Management – proven ability in managing projects from concept to completion. Able to prioritize appropriately and always meet deadlines.
• Excellent Teamwork – ability to assemble and motivate teams and work effectively with others.
• Superb Written & Verbal Communication – good at following directions; Ability to interact with and integrate requests of directors, broadcasters, executives and clients.
• Organization – demonstrated organizational skills including attention to detail.
• Strong Problem Solving Skills.
• Excellent conflict resolution and negotiation skills.
• Degree/diploma in fine arts or animation or equivalent experience
• A minimum of 5+ years production experience in film or television effects
• Thorough knowledge of 3D effects and simulation techniques
• Working knowledge of Maya and Houdini required
• Compositing experience is a plus
• UNIX/LINUX operating system experience required
• Experience programming Python is required

Surfacing Supervisor – Feature Film – DALLAS LOCATION – ANIMATION

Job Summary

Supervises the creation and application of textures for use in the production of animated features, also responsible for collaborating with the Lighting, Shading and Look Development Artists to create a variety of textural looks and styles.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Candidate is responsible for the establishment of accurate bids as well as meeting schedules and show deadlines, participates in dailies, rounds and team reviews of work in progress
• Interacts with production, supervisors and team/ peers in order to problem solve and share information related to show/ assigned tasks
• Must be able to decipher, as well as follow through on, work in progress, dailies, briefings/ notes and feedback.
• Supervise, as well as contribute to, the design, creation, and implementation of textures
• Paint textures both from scratch and by utilizing photography and pre-existing textures.
• Creates and maintains desired surface look and feel for characters, props and environments with direction from the Production Designer and/or Art Director.
• Work with production management to prioritize tasks.
• Keep supervisors informed of progress, changes, roadblocks and other critical issues
• Participate in training, recruiting and other global department tasks as requested
• Handles the more complex and technically demanding Surfacing setups.
• Works with other departments to communicate Surfacing needs (primarily Modeling) and provide for other departments’ needs (primarily Lighting)

• Familiarity with construction of complex shader networks. Ability to debug complex shader networks.
• Openness to existing workflows
• Ability to solve problems independently and take initiative
• Ability to work well in a team setting
• Experience with 3D paint packages
• Background in visual arts desired
