Animator

Job Description

Riot Games was established in 2006 by entrepreneurial gamers who believe that player-focused game development can result in great games. In 2009, Riot released its debut title League of Legends to critical and player acclaim. As the most played PC game in the world, over 32 million play every month. Players form the foundation of our community and it’s for them that we continue to evolve and improve the League of Legends experience.

We’re looking for humble but ambitious, razor-sharp professionals who can teach us a thing or two. We promise to return the favor. Like us, you take play seriously; you’re passionate about games. We embrace those who see things differently, aren’t afraid to experiment, and who have a healthy disregard for constraints.

That’s where you come in.

As Animator, you’ll breathe life into compelling characters and help shape the evolution of animation at Riot Games. Your skills and keen aesthetic eye for motion and animation will help you transform assets into dynamic masterpieces that inspire even before players hit the battlefield. You’ll help craft compelling champions; embedded with design teams from concept to execution, you’ll own the motive and motion of the characters you work on. Your intrinsic understanding of the principles behind animation helps you recognize quality and your earnestness helps raise the quality bar alongside your team. You coat-check your ego, but you’re eminently capable of articulating and defending your next great idea.

You are:

Experienced: you’ve shipped one or more triple-a games, movies or commercials; you’ve gone beyond basic animation to thoroughly explore weight, momentum and body mechanics for fliers, quadrupeds and bipedal creations, folding what you’ve learned into an expansive, yet comfy blanket filled with animated awesome
Artistic: you may not actually share wall space with the renaissance masters, but with your artistic eye and keen understanding of physical motion, form and color, you could; you’re comfortable collaborating, giving and receiving constructive and creative feedback
Problem assassin: you conduct problem reconnaissance and termination with the skill and ruthlessness of Agent 007; you’re an expert at root cause analysis, and problems fall swiftly under the sharp edge of your keen intellect
Productive and motivated: you believe artist’s block is for amateurs and you’re motivated to create nothing less than triple-a animation; you make creative decisions and drive projects forward without sacrificing quality
A player-focused gamer: as an experienced League of Legends player yourself, gaming is as much a part of your artistic palette as the animation tools you use; though your art’s awesomeness commands attention, you’d never let art upstage the holistic player experience

You will:

Breathe life into the world of League of Legends by adding dynamic elements and visual animations to rigged assets in a meticulous manner, in many formats
Interact with multiple Rioter teams including artists, designers and engineers to create conceptually sound motion graphics and animations that level-up the player experience and complement existing Riot Gamesaesthetics
Give and receive constructive and creative feedback across involved teams
Rally behind the ideas you conceive and those of your teammates, without running afoul of stultifying groupthink; you’ll evangelize for triple-a concepts and pass judgment on those that fail to hit our standards

To apply:

Click the link below and don’t forget to include a resume and cover letter along with your demo reel. We receive a lot of applications, but we’ll notice a fun, well-written intro that shows us you take play seriously.
