VFX Supervisor

We are currently seeking a VFX Supervisor to join our supervisory team. Applicants who are established, or upcoming, are welcome to apply.

Position Overview

The VFX Supervisor is required to supervise, monitor, direct and influence the wide-ranging creative aspects of high-end VFX production across multiple projects. Supplying creative direction, you will be directly responsible for driving success across entire VFX briefs, and you will have a strong understanding of all disciplines within the VFX pipeline.
You are an expert people manager, a natural team player and forward thinking professional. You inspire people through your extensive VFX knowledge, clear communication and by setting and maintaining high quality standards. You implement solutions to improve the overall efficiency at a show level. Utilising available resources, you work with your team to consistently deliver high quality VFX within the allocated resources and to the satisfaction of show requirements.
The strength of your creative eye, excellent communication, collaboration and leadership skills are highly regarded by your peers. You provide confidence to production that your team has absolute clarity in what is expected of them in terms of professionalism and shot delivery.

Responsibilities

Work closely with production on setting delivery schedule and quality standards.
Ensure RSP delivers quality shots on time and on budget.
Collaborate with the art director to ensure all VFX shots are stress tested and meet the brief.
Prototype and roll out VFX in line with financial and creative parameters.
Review all work for internal and external delivery, ensuring it hits creative and technical notes.
Set discipline and quality standards by leading through example and regularly providing feedback to your team.
Ensure your leads are effectively running their teams, providing guidance to resolve issues in the moment.
Mentor and actively develop less experienced team members.
Promote a collaborative and enjoyable workplace influencing morale, fostering purposeful discussion and positive work ethic.
Work with the Sales team, assisting with VFX breakdowns, budgets and shot methodologies as necessary.

Required skills and experience

Minimum 8 years supervisory or leadership experience in creating high-end VFX for live-action feature films.
Extensive production experience with Shotgun.
Have expert knowledge of, and experience in, dealing with a wide range of visual effects techniques.
Have an understanding of/creative eye for photography/film-making, lighting, design and [animation] timing/storytelling.
Practical understanding of the entire production pipeline process.
Multi-disciplinary understanding derived from working within Effects, Lighting, Compositing and Asset Teams.
Maintain a calm and professional demeanour in a deadline focused work environment.
Expert people management/leadership and organisational skills.
Technical and creative problem solving with a can-do mindset.

LookDev/Texture Artists

We are currently seeking experienced LookDev / Texture Artists to join our growing team.

Employment period: This is a long term position with an immediate start.
Location: Adelaide, Australia. This position is open to local and international applicants. Visa and relocation assistance provided where applicable.

Position Overview

Texture Artists will be required to quickly create photorealistic textures and materials for a wide range of assets including props, characters and environments, for a number of live action projects. Applicants presenting photo realistic work will be reviewed with priority.
Your previously held positions are likely to have included texture artist, look development artist, 3d generalist etc. You have previously textured an extensive range of models from props, characters, urban and city environments through to complex terrain, all with great speed and accuracy.
Your excellent communication and collaboration skills are highly regarded by your previous supervisors. You provide confidence to production because you have absolute clarity in what is expected of you in terms of consistency and quality.

Responsibilities

Create and deliver textures that meet the artistic brief.
Ensure every asset you create meets the requirements of those downstream.
Work with shader writers, modellers, lighters and other texture artists to produce consistent and accurate work.
Regularly demonstrate your work in progress.
Review your work prior to submission, ensuring it hits creative and technical notes, adjusting where necessary.
Demonstrate a good understanding of shading principles and shader language.
Strong understanding of colour/bit depth/resolution and how they affect the texturing process.
Actively mentor and develop less experienced team members.
Promote a collaborative and enjoyable workplace influencing morale, fostering purposeful discussion and positive work ethic.

Required Skills and Experience

Minimum 3 years professional VFX experience in the areas of texturing & shading.
Expert user of production ready software including Maya, Mari, Z-Brush & Mudbox. RSP operates in a Linux system environment.
Some exposure to Nuke & Houdini is desirable, but not essential.

Creature TD/Rigger

We are currently seeking an established character & prop Creature TD / Rigger for photo-realistic feature film work.

Employment periods: This is a long term position with an immediate start.

Position Overview

Working within RSP’s creature pipeline and using established rigging tools, the successful applicant will be required to create rigs for organic and hard surface models, including biped and quadruped creatures. Your previous experience creating straightforward, intuitive rigs for live action work allows animators to create realistic movement and performance.
As an accomplished and professional Creature TD / Rigger, you will have achieved success while working at a number of high profile VFX studios. While you will likely be familiar with a variety of rigging pipeline and tools, we expect you to add value to our pipeline, and not reinvent the wheel.
Demonstrated experience with Maya is a fundamental pre-requisite for the successful applicant.
The strength of your creative eye, excellent communication & collaboration, together with strong technical and programming background is essential.

Responsibilities

Work closely with modellers and animators to define the purpose and use of the rig.
Ensure rigging controls are fully adjustable as per feedback, being mindful of model parameters and limitations.
Ability to deliver dynamic character solutions for a full range of CG shots plus live action footage augmentation & transitions.
Create adjustable, anatomically correct human and facial rigs with intuitive animation controls, to tight delivery and quality standards.
Ensure muscle systems deform the model cleanly and accurately.
Demonstrate rigging progress through the regular submission of work-in-progress and daily updates.
Complete basic modelling & animation tasks as required, to achieve and rigging objectives.
Clearly communicate with production any delays or obstacles that may impact your delivery.
Provide thorough QA and sanity checks of rigs before handover to your internal client.

Required Skills and Experience

Minimum 5-years high-end rigging experience using native, commercial and self developed rigging tools within Maya.
Strong experience scripting in python.
Thorough understanding of anatomical features, subtleties, quirks and limitations.
Real world understanding of proportion, depth, scale, and physical space.

Layout Artist

Position Overview

The Layout Artist is responsible for designing and setting up high quality live action and all-cg shots.
The successful candidate will have a thorough understanding of cameras, composition, cinematography and assets as well as the ability to effectively collaborate with the head of the department and the show supervisor.
Your proven ability to construct compelling cinematography through digital set building will ensure your success. You value the relationship between all scene objects relative to the camera. To that end, you transition between the artistic & technical challenges with ease. You are mindful of optimising scene assets to ensure downstream render success.
You possess a technical understanding of physical camera attributes and the spatial relationship between large number of physical and digital assets.

Responsibilities

The consistent and timely creation of animated cameras and objects derived from live action plates and reference materials.
High quality creation of all animated plate elements.
Animation and shot design for previs and postvis.
Basic character animation.
Live action footage based workflow using imageplanes, nodal and non nodal camera offsets and re-projections.
Scene setup, set dressing and environment blocking.
Maintaining sequence continuity.
Dressing shots with pre-animated vignettes/animation cycles.
Creation of high quality playblast for review.
Distribution of work for downstream use by other departments.
Assist in diagnosing and troubleshooting pipeline issues.
Keep up-to-date on toolsets.
Mentoring and develop less experienced team members. Knowledge and technique sharing is expected in this role.

Requirements

Minimum 3+ years layout experience working with live action footage, image planes and projections for high-end feature films.
Proven ability to create realistic camera motion.

Attention to detail, with a strong creative eye.
Deep understanding of composition.
Strong communication skills.
Real world camera, and onset experience is a plus.
A desire and willingness to improve and learn.

Layout Technical Director

We are currently looking for experienced Layout Technical Directors to join our Layout team.

Position Overview

The Layout Department is pivotal in supplying elements for use by all downstream departments. Layout TD’s share the same responsibilities as the Layout Artists, and also need to be proficient in setting up the most complex scenes with a broad variety of components such as projections, and asset compilations, while also creating custom solutions to challenging problems.
Contributing to the development of the specialist layout toolset and working closely with pipeline engineering, Layout TD’s assist in the development of workflow and production tools.
Your proven ability to construct compelling cinematography through digital set building will ensure your success. You value the relationship between all scene objects relative to the camera. To that end, you transition between the artistic & technical challenges with ease. You are mindful of optimising scene assets to ensure downstream render success.

Camera matchmove and character matchanimation/solving (Experience with 3d package embedded solver engines is a plus).
Tool development with documentation creation, and ongoing support within a Maya / Linux environment.
Pipeline support within the Layout dept.

Requirements

Strong problem solving skills for technical and creative problems alike.
Strong communication skills.
An ability to work to direction in a collaborative environment.
C++, Qt and Maya Api experience is a plus.
Unreal Engine experience is a plus.
Understanding of Cinematography and real experience with real world camera’s is a plus.
