Mid-Senior Lighting Artists

Rising Sun Pictures is currently seeking talented Mid Lighting Artists to join our growing team.

Employment period: Range of short term contracts with a July start through to October/November 2017.

Position Overview

Reporting directly to RSP’s lighting leads, our lighters are responsible for the creation of wide ranging natural phenomena for a variety of live action feature films. Applicants presenting highly realistic work in their portfolio, will be reviewed with priority.
Although RSP runs a Houdini / Mantra / Arnold pipeline, applicants with broad exposure to any industry standard 3d packages and renderers should apply for this position.

You are a professional artist who works collaboratively with your team and those working in other departments. You are an excellent time manager and forward thinker who delivers to schedule and to brief. You have previously lit and rendered wide ranging assets generated by Houdini effects artists, modelers, texture artists and animators.
Your ability to own your work is highly regarded by your previous employers. As a professional lighting artist, you provide confidence to production because you have absolute clarity in what is expected of you in terms of lighting consistency and shot delivery.

Responsibilities

Using Houdini and SolidAngle’s Arnold, light and render a variety of small and large scale cg elements including props, models, environments, crowds, creatures and effects.
Provide solutions for techniques such as subsurface scattering and physically plausible shading.
Use HDRI information to match live action lighting elements.
Strong emphasis on optimising and troubleshooting renders, providing feedback to departments upstream and render wranglers.
Work closely with compositors ensuring the renders you provide are consistent with their expectation.
Follow creative & technical briefs with regard to the production schedule.
Take ownerships of all notes and feedback relating to your shots.
Iterate your work as directed by your lead and within the allocated resources.
Ensure your lead and coordinator are kept up to date of any issues that may hinder your ability to reach a deadline.
Develop and maintain a working relationship with peers assisting them when requested.
Actively mentor and develop less experienced team members.
Maintain consistency across sequences and shots. Adopt a methodical approach to lighting setups.
Provide clear and accurate time estimates for all work assigned.
Collaborate with supervisors, compositors, effects and environment artists in establishing robust and consistent handovers.
Review your work for internal and external delivery, ensuring it hits creative and technical notes.
Seek feedback when renders fail to match delivery expectation.
Promote a collaborative and enjoyable workplace influencing morale, fostering purposeful discussions and a positive work ethic.
Please note, RSP operates a Maya / Houdini pipeline in a Linux system environment.

Required Skills and Experience

Minimum 4 years professional lighting experience in VFX, working on live-action feature films.
Applicants demonstrating shots lit & rendered using Houdini’s Mantra or Arnold preferred.
Proficient at Compositing in Nuke.
Maintain a calm and professional demeanour in a delivery focused work environment.
Real world understanding of physics, math, proportion, depth, colour, and of course lighting.

Senior Production Coordinator

At Rising Sun Pictures, an exciting opportunity exists for a Senior Production Coordinator to join us on some high profile projects.

Employment period: 6-12 month position open to negotiation, with an immediate start.

Position Overview

The successful candidate will have outstanding written and verbal communication skills, and be experienced working in a deadline driven environment. You are service focussed and ask for clarity when required. You take responsibility for your work, following up and reporting outcomes from varying technical and artistic disciplines across multiple projects.
Ideal candidates will have production and/or project experience, with the ability to coordinate and track the progress of allocated tasks across rolling daily and nightly deadlines. You should have a thorough understanding of how to create and set project milestones within approved schedules. Responsibilities

Seek input from Production Managers & supervisors to create and set project milestones & deliveries.
Work closely with departmental heads to assign tasks and briefs.
Coordinate and track the progress of deliverables and targets.
Resolve any impasse between your team, departments, and resources, communicating resolutions as necessary.
Accurately update and maintain detailed, up-to-date data through database tracking software Shotgun.
Maintain strong project knowledge across multiple shows.
Attend team and client briefing sessions, taking accurate notes and quickly communicating outcomes to your team.
Work with the Editorial and Render department to ensure the successful delivery of work to the client.
Look ahead to upcoming show delivery requirements, meeting with key leads ensuring crew are briefed accordingly.
Remain proactive ensuring nothing is overlooked.

Required Skills and Experience

Minimum 4 years feature film vfx experience.
Strong communication skills and excellent attention to detail.
Accurate note taking and database entry skills.
Excellent time management and prioritisation skills.
Experience in scheduling complex and multi-faceted projects [preferred].
Ability to work in a Macintosh environment.
Proactively problem solve.
Willingness to learn the VFX production pipeline.

Senior Cloth TD

Rising Sun Pictures is currently seeking an experienced Senior Cloth Technical Director to join our team on photo-realistic feature film work.

Employment period: Short Term. Immediate start through to Sep/Oct 2017.

Position Overview

Reporting directly to the Head of Animation and Creatures, this position will be required to create complex cloth simulations for high-end digi-doubles. Your strong understanding of physical movement and the effect of natural environmental forces, ensure your simulations hit the creative brief.
As an accomplished and professional artist, you have excellent animation sensibilities and well developed creative eye. You will have achieved previous success at a number of high profile VFX studios in roles such as Cloth Technical, Character TD, Effects Animator, etc. You are adaptable, in that you can work varying in-house rigging systems.

Demonstrated experience with Maya rigging & animation tools and high end cloth systems such as nCloth is a fundamental pre-requisite for successful applicants.

Responsibilities

Deliver dynamic cloth simulations for CG assets required for live action footage augmentation & transition.
Create & adjust highly adjustable, physically plausible cloth rigs.
Work closely with other Cloth TD’s Modellers and Animators to achieve prescribed delivery.
Demonstrate progress through the regular submission of work in progress and daily updates.
Clearly communicate with production any delays or obstacles that may impact your delivery.
Provide thorough QA and sanity checks of rigs before they reach your internal client.

Position Overview

The VFX Supervisor is required to supervise, monitor, direct and influence the wide-ranging creative aspects of high-end VFX production across multiple projects. Supplying creative direction, you will be directly responsible for driving success across entire VFX briefs, and you will have a strong understanding of all disciplines within the VFX pipeline.

You are an expert people manager, a natural team player and forward thinking professional. Position Overview

With a focus on quality, the VFX Producer is responsible for overseeing all aspects of our visual effects award, ensuring the project is delivered on time and on budget. Successful applicants will work closely with the VFX Supervisor, Production leads and Heads of Department, defining show methodology and execution strategy.
You will be responsible for the overall management and successful completion of wide ranging production activities, required for the delivery of photorealistic visual effects. You are an established leader, respected by industry peers and colleagues. An excellent communicator and problem solver, you are a strong negotiator who excels in project and time management. Ever cognisant of the project strategy and methodology, you maintain the control required to deliver excellent product in a fast-paced production environment.

Responsibilities

Bid work with the Sales team and supervisors, maintaining change orders as scope varies.
Define the overall project scope and execution strategy with the VFX Supervisor.
Work with client and company to resolve any impasse which threatens to delay or impede project commitments or milestones.
Provide risk assessment on new opportunities assessing resources, viability and impact to existing schedules and employees.
Work with various Heads of Department and show supervisors to ensure briefs are clear and well defined.
Create regular and accurate project reports, detailing the project’s financial and creative status to client and management.
Own the overall client communication, adding value to the relationship, providing surety on all aspects of the project and adjusting your own style as needed.
In concert with Production Management, produce and maintain show schedules, ensuring the delivery roadmap is clear, making adjustment as the project evolves.
Create mitigation strategies to reduce the risk, impact, severity and/or probability of an occurrence.
Manage and mentor peers and members of the production team, cultivating an environment of professionalism where people are engaged, effective and clear on expectation.

Required Skills and Experience

3 to 7+ years VFX Producer experience.
Proven strategic and scheduling experience across all areas of visual effects.
Clear and methodical planning and communication with artists, supervisors and clients.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to operate with a high degree of professionalism and control in a pressurised, time-sensitive working environment.
Excellent knowledge of Shotgun.
Clear understanding of all aspects of the VFX workflow.
Preferably experienced in a facility working with a departmental structure.
