Position Overview

Reporting directly to the Head of Lighting, you will be responsible for the creation of wide ranging natural phenomena for a variety of live action feature films. Applicants presenting highly realistic work in their portfolio, will be reviewed with priority.
Although RSP runs a Houdini / Mantra / Arnold pipeline, applicants with broad exposure to any industry standard 3d packages and renderers should apply for this position.
You are a professional artist who works collaboratively with your team and those working in other departments. You are an excellent time manager and forward thinker who delivers to schedule and to brief. You have previously lit and rendered wide ranging assets generated by Houdini effects artists, modelers, texture artists and animators.

Responsibilities

Using Houdini and SolidAngle’s Arnold, light and render a variety of small and large scale cg elements including props, models, environments, crowds, creatures and effects.
Provide solutions for techniques such as subsurface scattering and physically plausible shading.
Use HDRI information to match live action lighting elements.
Step into a lead position and lead other lighting artists and/or sequences as required.
Strong emphasis on optimising and troubleshooting renders, providing feedback to departments upstream and render wranglers.
Work closely with compositors ensuring the renders you provide are consistent with their expectation.

Senior Creature Technical Director

Position Overview

The successful applicant will be responsible for creating and maintaining animation rigs and simulation rigs for characters, creatures, props and vehicles. You will also be required to implement proprietary tools to aid in the creation of rigs and simulations. As a Senior Creature TD you will work closely with Modellers and Animators to develop and refine rigs and sims that meet specific creative and technical VFX requirements.

Your previously held positions are likely to have included Senior Creature TD, Senior Rigger, Senior Cloth TD etc. You are highly experienced in rigging and have experience with nCloth, fluent with Python, have extensive muscle experience, and will have previously designed, tested and deployed animation rigging toolsets for high end visual effects.

This position will suit experienced CG Supervisors with strong VFX skills and wide ranging hands-on experience. Responsibilities

Manage, support and supervise key aspects of the CG pipeline including, but not limited to, FX, Lighting and Look Development, Animation and Creatures, Layout, Modelling etc.
Work closely with the 2D department to ensure assets created are utilised as intended with minimal excess assets created.
Create technical solutions to ensure deadlines are met in consideration of each projects financial and resource parameters.
Work with VFX Supervisors to ensure RSP delivers quality shots on time and on budget to the Client.
Ensure briefs, from the VFX Supervisors, are well understood by the Head of Departments, clarifying and expanding on details as requested.
Collaborate with the Head of Departments to set show-based technical directions and quality expectations to improve the images we make.
Set clear goals and expectations for Head of Departments through direct communication.
Work with production to outline scheduling and resource needs
Work constructively with staff in all positions at all levels of the Company. This requires the consistent and efficient use of influence, over role power.
Through regular communication with Head of Departments, maintain an ongoing awareness of the state of show assets and shots, maintaining an ongoing view of project health.
Mentor and actively develop less experienced team members.
Promote a collaborative and enjoyable workplace influencing morale, fostering purposeful discussion and positive work ethic.

Required skills and experience

Minimum 8 years senior CG experience in successive 3D focused roles, including a minimum 4 years in the position of CG Supe/CG Lead, on live action feature films.
Extensive production experience with Shotgun.
Expert user of production ready software for 3D and 2D applications, such as Maya, Nuke, Houdini etc. N.B. RSP operates in a Linux system environment.
Have an understanding of/creative eye for photography/film-making, lighting, design and [animation] timing/storytelling.
Practical understanding of the entire production pipeline process.
Multi-disciplinary understanding derived from working within Effects, Lighting, Compositing and Asset Teams.
Maintain a calm and professional demeanour in a deadline focused work environment.
Expert people management/leadership and organisational skills.
Technical and creative problem solving with a can-do mindset.

Senior VFX Producer

​Rising Sun Pictures is currently accepting applications from Senior VFX Producers. Ideal applicants will have extensive client facing experience and be adept at managing the highest quality, live-action feature films from bid through to delivery. Position Overview

The Senior VFX Producer works closely with VFX Supervisors managing all aspects of the VFX Production process, across complex live action and CG feature films. The role must continually work on developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients and crew. Through strong leadership, the VFX Producer will set and keep milestones to schedule, manage client expectations, and support RSP’s technical and creative staff. Typically, the types of projects you are adept at Producing are characterised as asset rich with high levels of naturalistic cg, perfectly incorporated into live-action plates.

Applicants must have extensive hands-on post-production VFX budgeting experience. Your VFX knowledge must to be finely tuned to appreciate the detail vfx disciplines require, to consistently deliver the highest quality work. Key financial responsibilities include working with the bidding team to establish project financials, through to creating change orders and continual reporting of bid vs actuals.

With the project Production Manager, you will need to track and monitor all aspects of turnover, vendor shares (if required), marketing requests, credit lists and consolidation. Your professionalism, decisiveness, organisational skills together with exceptional communication will underpin your success.

Responsibilities

Bid work with the Sales team and Supervisors, maintaining change orders as scope varies.
Work with the Executive Producer, Head of Production and Supervisors to ensure quality standards and protocols are adhered to.
Define the overall project scope and execution strategy with the VFX Supervisor.
Work with client and company to resolve any impasse which threatens to delay or impede project commitments or milestones.
Complete project risk assessments for new opportunities, assessing resource requirements, viability and the impact each show may have to existing schedules and employees workload.
Work with various Heads of Department and show supervisors to ensure briefs are clear and well defined.
Create regular and accurate project reports, detailing the project’s financial and creative status to client and management.
Act decisively to quickly provide clarity and direction from a mass of project data.
Set and own client communication standards, adding value to the relationship through collaboration, providing assurance on all aspects of the project as required.
In concert with the Production Management team, produce and maintain and communicate show schedules, ensuring the delivery roadmap is clear, making adjustments as the project evolves.
Create mitigation strategies to reduce risk, impact, severity and reoccurrence of issues.
Lead by example. Manage and mentor peers and members of the production team, cultivating an environment of professionalism and accountability. Foster an environment where people are engaged, valued, effective and always clear on expectation.

Required skills and experience

7+ years VFX Producer experience across live-action feature films.
Proven strategic and project management experience across all areas of visual effects; including pre, shoot to post.
Clear and methodical planning and communication with artists, supervisors and clients.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to operate with a high degree of professionalism and control within a pressurised, time-sensitive working environment.
Excellent knowledge of Shotgun.
Clear understanding of all aspects of the VFX workflow.
Knowledge of Fast Track and other scheduling tools preferred.
Strong knowledge of MS Office, with a focus on Word and Excel.
