Senior Developer

We are currently looking for a Senior Developer to join our growing crew to work on some highly anticipated feature films.

Employment period: This is a long-term position with a potential start early 2017.

Position Overview

Calling all Senior Developers who are looking to work in a cutting edge industry with a flux environment! Working with an extremely talented team of programmers and developers, as Senior Developer your role will be to work on complex development projects. Creating internal systems, and pipelines, you’ll be making things work for visual effects artists in a high end feature film environment. VFX experience not necessary.
RSP works predominately in a Linux environment, with many different software applications such as Shotgun, 3dEqualizer, Maya, Houdini, Mari, Nuke and Photoshop. Your ability to write code in Python is excellent and as a people person, you are available to help solve technical problems that may impede artistic progress.

Responsibilities

Work directly with Production Technology to create internal systems, and contribute to the Pipeline Structure.
Develop and maintain standard facility tools and workflows for use throughout the facility, but flexible enough to adapt to specific project needs.
Create robust general purpose tools from artist prototypes that can be used in multiple situations.
Assist artists in resolving technical problems.
All senior staff at RSP are expected to lead by example through mentoring and developing less experienced team members. Knowledge sharing is expected in this senior role.
Promote a collaborative and enjoyable workplace, influencing morale, fostering purposeful discussion and positive work ethic.

Required Skills and Experience

Minimum 5+ years experience working in Software Development.
Confident with programming tools such as compilers, debuggers, and version control systems.
Expert level knowledge of writing code in Python, plus other programming languages such as C++, and Mel.
Experience using unix based operating systems such as Linux and OS X.
Familiar with software applications such as Maya, Houdini, Nuke, Mari and 3dequalizer a plus, but not necessary.
Technical and creative problem solving with a service oriented mindset.
Maintain a calm and professional demeanour in a deadline focused work environment.
Visual Effects, Fine Art, Computer Science, Physics or Mathematics or related tertiary qualification may be required for international applicants.

Character FX TD

We are currently seeking an established Character Effects Technical Director to join our animation team for a highly anticipated feature film. This position will have a strong emphasis on creating realistic cloth simulation.
Employment periods: Immediate start through to late 2017.
Location: Adelaide, Australia. This position is open to Australian and international applicants. Visa and relocation assistance provided where applicable.

Position Overview

In this role you will be required to create hero and secondary cloth simulations across a range of 3d assets including digi-doubles, sails, flags, hero vehicles, etc. Your strong understanding of physical movement and the effect of natural environmental forces, ensure your simulations hit the creative brief.
As an accomplished and professional artist, you have excellent animation sensibilities and well developed creative eye. You will have achieved previous success at a number of high profile VFX studios in roles such as Cloth Technical, Character TD, Effects Animator, etc. You are adaptable, in that you can work varying in-house rigging systems. You may be currently creating high-end game cinematics and be looking to extend your career into visual effects.
Demonstrated experience with Maya rigging & animation tools and high end cloth systems is a fundamental pre-requisite for successful applicants.

Responsibilities

Deliver dynamic cloth and/or hair simulations across a wide range of CG assets required for live action footage augmentation & transition.
Create & adjust highly adjustable cloth rigs, that allow for the creation of plausible animation.
Work closely with other Riggers, Modellers and Animators to hit delivery targets.
Demonstrate progress through the regular submission of work in progress and daily updates.
Clearly communicate with production any delays or obstacles that may impact your delivery.
Provide thorough QA and sanity checks of rigs before they reach your internal client.

Required Skills and Experience

Minimum 2 years high-end cloth simulation within a Maya working environment.
Rigging skills a plus.
Experience using nCloth advantageous.
Experience using Yeti preferred.
Experience with simulating digital hair advantageous, but not essential in this role.
Artistic and real-world understanding of dynamics, proportion, depth, scale, and physical space.
Expert people management/leadership and organisational skills.

Layout Artists

We are currently looking for experienced Layout Artists to join our Layout team.
Employment period: 6 month contract with an immediate start.

Position Overview

You will be responsible for assembling scenes from a variety of asset sources. Layout applicants with strong communication skills will thrive at RSP, where VFX pipeline and interdepartmental understanding is valued.
Your previous positions may have included Layout, Matchmove or Previz roles. Your proven ability to construct compelling cinematography through digital set building will ensure your success. You value the relationship between all scene objects relative to the camera. To that end, you transition between the artistic & technical challenges with ease. You are mindful of optimising scene assets to ensure downstream render success.
You possess a technical understanding of physical camera attributes and the spatial relationship between large number of physical and digital assets.

Responsibilities

Create, own & support key areas of the layout & camera pipeline
Provide environment, set dressing, scene layout, shot design and animation
Provide digital camera creation and augmentation / wholly digital camera realisation
Through post visualisation and layout, fully block scenes to supervisor and client requirements, providing QA of your work at all times
Reproduce exact virtual camera data
May be required to provide matchmove solutions
Work closely with a variety of departments from asset to effects, to achieve delivery requirements
Actively mentor and develop the skills of more junior team members

Required Skills and Experience

Minimum 3 years Layout department experience, in addition to at least 2 years experience in positions such as previsualisation preferred
Possess a resume/reel which features more live action feature experience than 3d Animation
Experience with environment layout prefered.
Real world camera and lens exposure covering lens distortion & projection, focal length & orientation
Physical world understanding of proportion, depth, scale, and physical space. You don’t just exist in the digital space!
Solid experience with Maya cameras and the Maya workspace
RSP operates in a largely Linux system environment. Basic command line skills are essential
Working knowledge of Nuke & Shotgun advantageous
Excellent communication skills

Creature TD/Rigger

We are currently seeking an established character & prop Creature TD / Rigger for photo-realistic feature film work.

Position Overview

Working within RSP’s creature pipeline and using established rigging tools, the successful applicant will be required to create rigs for organic and hard surface models, including biped and quadruped creatures. Your previous experience creating straightforward, intuitive rigs for live action work allows animators to create realistic movement and performance.
As an accomplished and professional Creature TD / Rigger, you will have achieved success while working at a number of high profile VFX studios. While you will likely be familiar with a variety of rigging pipeline and tools, we expect you to add value to our pipeline, and not reinvent the wheel.
Demonstrated experience with Maya is a fundamental pre-requisite for the successful applicant.
The strength of your creative eye, excellent communication & collaboration, together with strong technical and programming background is essential.

Responsibilities

Work closely with modellers and animators to define the purpose and use of the rig.
Ensure rigging controls are fully adjustable as per feedback, being mindful of model parameters and limitations.
Ability to deliver dynamic character solutions for a full range of CG shots plus live action footage augmentation & transitions.
Create adjustable, anatomically correct human and facial rigs with intuitive animation controls, to tight delivery and quality standards.
Ensure muscle systems deform the model cleanly and accurately.
Demonstrate rigging progress through the regular submission of work-in-progress and daily updates.
Complete basic modelling & animation tasks as required, to achieve and rigging objectives.
Clearly communicate with production any delays or obstacles that may impact your delivery.

LookDev/Texture Artists

We are currently seeking experienced LookDev/Texture Artists to join our growing team.

Position Overview

Texture Artists will be required to quickly create photorealistic textures and materials for a wide range of assets including props, characters and environments, for a number of live action projects. Applicants presenting photo realistic work will be reviewed with priority.
Your previously held positions are likely to have included texture artist, look development artist, 3d generalist etc. You have previously textured an extensive range of models from props, characters, urban and city environments through to complex terrain, all with great speed and accuracy.
Your excellent communication and collaboration skills are highly regarded by your previous supervisors. You provide confidence to production because you have absolute clarity in what is expected of you in terms of consistency and quality.

Responsibilities

Create and deliver textures that meet the artistic brief.
Ensure every asset you create meets the requirements of those downstream.
Work with shader writers, modellers, lighters and other texture artists to produce consistent and accurate work.
Regularly demonstrate your work in progress.
Review your work prior to submission, ensuring it hits creative and technical notes, adjusting where necessary.
Demonstrate a good understanding of shading principles and shader language.
Strong understanding of colour/bit depth/resolution and how they affect the texturing process.
Actively mentor and develop less experienced team members.

Minimum 3 years professional VFX experience in the areas of texturing & shading.
