Lead Facial Rigger

Rockstar North is looking for a Lead Facial Rigger to join its highly talented team in Edinburgh for our current and next generation console game development. The successful candidate would be responsible for assigning and directing work to an internal and external team of riggers and technical animators, building and maintaining a team of artists, and driving quality.
The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years’ experience creating high end facial rigs in the video games industry with focus on both the technical and aesthetic features of facial animation performance. The candidate will work closely with the local and external rigging, animation and graphics departments to understand the systems and mechanics and balance our needs with the technical and aesthetic requirements of video game facial animation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Working with Lead Animator and Lead Animation Programmer to understand the systems, mechanics and pipelines of the in-game animation pipeline and drive this forward.
Working with Lead Graphics Programmer to understand the shaders and complexities of next generation rendering pipelines.
Keeping abreast of all current facial technologies and keep Rockstar at the cutting edge.
Bringing innovation and resolution to technical problems and challenges throughout production.
Helping develop and manage a facial rigging team distributed over several sites, including mentoring other technical artists to help improve their skills.
Demonstrate creativity and technical ability within the constraints of console development.
Develop and maintain approval processes for rigs.
Critique, evaluate and feedback to all our teams.
Ensure clear and consistent documentation of production pipeline.

REQUIREMENTS

3+ years of professional industry experience.
Prior experience of managing a team.
Exemplary communication and organisation skills.
Professional attitude and aptitude to learn.
Proficient with 3ds Max and MotionBuilder.
Flexibility to travel to other studios.

Lead VFX Artist

Rockstar Games is looking for a Lead VFX Artist who possesses the ability to create high quality real time visual effects for AAA video game titles.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Experienced at creating a wide range of high quality particle effects using proprietary particle tools and various 3rd party software.
Interacting closely with rendering programmers and technical art to maintain and improve our proprietary effect system and tools.
Ability to collaborate effectively with other team disciplines (code, design, animation).
Can demonstrate creativity and technical ability within the constraints of console development.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Effective time and team management skills to meet deadlines without sacrificing quality.
Drive our particle rendering and authoring technology forward to meet the requirements of next-gen hardware.
Mentoring our team of VFX artists for their continual improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS

Industry experience, having shipped title/s demonstrating VFX quality (PS3, 360, PC).
Experience with next-gen consoles (PS4, Xbox One) is a strong plus.
Experience in the game industry on a AAA game.
The ability to view visual reference of an effect, deconstruct it and subsequently re-create it in a real-time game engine is essential.
Strong knowledge of environmental effects, lighting, and dynamics.
5+ years of professional experience as an effect artist.
2+ years of experience in a senior or lead role.

SKILLS

Experience using real-time particle tools.
Experience with Houdini (or similar).
Experience with 3D studio Max and Photoshop.

As an Environment Artist working at Rockstar North, you will be responsible for creating exciting and believable artwork, creating and texturing environment assets for the biggest and best open world environments in the industry. You will have previous experience of working on a large games production and be mindful of memory restrictions and design requirements.
We prize an ability to demonstrate individual design skills; including concept and creation of assets that are both original and yet still keep a look and feel of their specific real-world references.

Model, texture and create collision in 3D for game environments.
Work closely with Programmers and other departments to ensure art assets are fully optimized for target platforms while minimizing any impact on artistic integrity of assets.
Participate in R&D of new techniques to implement into production pipeline.
Proactively seek feedback from Lead Artist, Producer and Creative Director.
Ensure that artistic style is consistent with defined visual style for the game.

QUALIFICATIONS

2+ years of post-secondary educational experience in 2D and 3D art production.
3+ years of experience as a 3D artist within the gaming or similar industry.
Preferably worked on at least one released title.
Possess a good knowledge of cutting edge shader techniques.
Superior 3D art skills.
Eagerness to learn new software tools and technologies.
Ability to work in a team setting, under deadlines and time constraints.
Expertise in 3ds Max, Photoshop, or other technologies utilized in the production of game art.
Strong technical background with ability to grasp new programs and systems quickly would be an advantage.

Excellent compositional skills and all-around artistic expertise and flare.
