Animation Supervisor

Description

Position in Montreal.

Under the supervision of the Animation Department Supervisor, the Animation Supervisor is responsible for the work delivered by the Animation department on a project. He establishes, in collaboration with the Department Supervisor, the working methods of his team, taking into account the requirements of the pipeline, both technical/methodological, present and future. He supervises, guides and develops his team and acts as mentor of his specialty. His great knowledge of the team’s abilities allows him to delegate certain tasks to employees determined.

Responsibilities:

Overseeing the creation of high quality, visually stunning, hyper realistic animation for creatures, characters and objects on our shows
Organize meetings and dailies with animation artists to keep track of the work. Fully responsible for providing artistic and technical notes to the animators
Work closely with the CG Supervisor and VFX Supervisor to find the best creative and technical solutions
Act as a mentor and inspire, motivate and develop the talent of the animators
On smaller shows and during pre-production, act as an artist, and create high end, hyper realistic animation, setting the quality standards for the animation team to follow
Assist the Animation Department Supervisor in developing the talent and culture of the team. Ensures that Rodeo quality standards are met.
Meeting schedules and show deadlines
Ongoing communication with Production regarding the teams’ schedules and deadlines

Requirements:

Minimum 7 years of experience in a VFX studio
Excellent understanding of body mechanics, acting, posing and storytelling techniques
Excellent knowledge of Maya
Proven skills as a mentor, manager and leader
Self-driven, good communicator, and a great-team player
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Work ethic focused on the dynamism and collaboration
Ability to perform multiple tasks, set priorities and problem solving

Desired skills:

Previous experience with Linux
Knowledge of scripting, Mel or Python
An understanding of Rigging and Modeling
Previous experience working with motion capture data
Previous experience in hyper realistic facial animation

Software Developer – Shotgun

Description

Responsibilities:

Primarily responsible for developing high quality, stable code for use within Shotgun’s Ecosystem
Architect, develop and maintain the integration of Shotgun in our production pipeline using Python
Develop and maintain Shotgun Event Handler Plugins
Create testable, efficient and reusable code by using best in class software development practices
Participate in design and code reviews
Create unit and functional tests
Participate in the continuous improvement of the development process
Boost performance and encourage innovation
Stay plugged into emerging technologies and industry trends and apply them into operations and activities
Perform other Ad Hoc tasks as required

Requirements:

A university degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering or similar field
5+ years of Python programming experience
3+ years VFX Pipeline experience required
Strong knowledge and experience with Shotgun Software Platform
Understanding of production workflow, project management and scheduling
Proven debugging, development testing, and problem solving abilities
Flexible and able to work in a frequently changing environment
Knowledge of relational database design and implementation
Ability to handle high stress environments

Flame Compositor

Description

Position in Montreal.

We are looking for experienced Flame artists who are interested in working on amazing feature films and TV projects, as part of a dynamic and creative environment. The artist will be working closely with the VFX Supervisors for look development, composition and post-vis.

Responsibilities:

Achieve simple to complex compositing tasks at all stages of the production process including pre-comps, temp composites, 2D tracking, 2D effects, extractions, selection and integration of elements, and color grading
Produce high level photorealistic images and create seamless transitions between filmed footage and composited 2D and 3D elements
Experience in compositing photorealistic images of high-quality and skills to create a smooth transition between shooting plans and 2D/3D elements.
A strong sense of compositing, color and design, and a thorough knowledge of the film industry and color.
Extensive knowledge of extraction techniques of bluescreen and greenscreen
Work with the visual effects supervisor and the compositing supervisor to determine creative and technical approaches.
Deliver work within established project targets and the high quality standards of the company.

Requirements:

Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial or feature film VFX production
Must be proficient with all functions of Flame software
Developed artistic and precision senses, good eye and mastery of photographic shooting including knowledge of color, light (reflection, refraction, shadows), perspective and composition
Ability to work closely with clients
Ability to remain calm under pressure
Excellent organizational and communication skills

Lead Animation

Description

Position in Montreal.

As Lead Animation per project, he is responsible for the work coming from his department. The Lead Animation establish, in cohesion with the lead of the department, working methods for his team, taking into account the technical requirements of the pipeline, present and future. The Lead Animation supervises, guides and develops his team and acts as a mentor for his speciality. His great knowledge of the skills of his team allows him to delegate some tasks to employees that he will choose himself.

Responsibilities:

Working closely with the CG Supervisor and VFX Supervisor, the Lead Animation oversees the animation
Act as an animation consultant, working closely with the CG supervisor, production team and the Animation Department Supervisor, to find the best approaches to technical and artistic challenges
Act as a mentor and inspire, motivate and develop the talent of the animators

Animation TD

Description

Under the supervision of the Animation Supervisor, the Animation TD will be working closely with the Pipeline Department in the development of tools and solutions for the Animation department.

Responsibilities:

Create testable, efficient and reusable tools by using best in class software development practices
Develop animation and rigging pipeline tools to meet production requests, ensuring it is consistent with department standards as requested by show and technical supervisors
Help to maintain a wide array of existing workflows and scripts
Provide front-line production support to Animators, troubleshooting assets and shots, and helping artists with general problem-solving
Be able to work with the Animation Supervisor and Head of Pipeline to determine the best possible technical and creative approaches.
Complete tasks within the timeframe given by the Animation Supervisor and Head of Pipeline
Create and communicate documentation about developed tools and train other users to use the developed tools

Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Computer Visualization, or Computer Animation required or equivalent work experience
Minimum 3+ years of experience in a VFX studio
3+ years of pipeline development experience
Experience with Python scripting. C++ programming experience, an asset
Experience with Maya
A good understanding of Linux Operating System
Proven debugging, development testing, and problem solving abilities
Self-driven, good communicator, and a great-team player

Rigging Artist

Description

Position at Rodeo FX Montreal and Quebec City.

Responsibilities:

The artist must be able to create 3D rigs for different types of objects, vehicles, animals and characters.
Be able to work with the visual effects supervisor and Lead CG to determine the best possible technical and creative approaches.
Create tool and simple script needed to manufacture rigs

Requirements:

Minimum 5 years of experience as a rigging artist in a VFX studio
Has a solid knowledge and understanding of the principles of anatomy and facial expression
Knowledge of traditional 2D and 3D animation techniques, an asset
Knowledge the anatomy for bipeds, quadrupeds, skeletons and muscles
Knowledge of basic modeling tools for blend shapes
Knowledge of basic animation tools for the creation of animation test deformation
Excellent knowledge of Maya
Experience in programming using Python, PySide, PyQT, VEX
Experience in programming using C++ for Maya plug-ins, an asset

Creature FX TD

Description

Position in Montreal and Quebec City.

Under the supervision of the CG Supervisor, the Creature FX TD is responsible for providing a wide variety of dynamic simulations and rigs for photo-realistic creatures; including clothing, fur, hair, muscle and skin.

Responsibilities:

Creation of fur, feathers and grooming for photo-realistic creatures
Develop simulation setups for photo-realistic creatures; including clothing, fur, hair, muscle and skin.
Involvement in the development of departmental tools and techniques
Regularly communicating with Production and Leads regarding schedules and deadlines
To be able to work with the visual effects supervisor, and the lead CG artist to determine the best creative approaches and techniques for all the different steps in a 3D production pipeline.
Be able to deliver work within established project targets and the high quality standards of the company.

Requirements:

Minimum 5 years of experience in a CFX/FX role in a VFX studio
Previous experience on CG creature projects
Excellent knowledge of Maya
Excellent knowledge of Houdini
Experience in the following dynamic simulation: cloth, hair/fur, feathers, skin and muscle
Programming experience with Python, PySide, PyQt, VEX
Programming experience with C++ for Maya and Houdini plug-ins, an asset
Knowledge of 3D-related mathematics, an asset
Experience in creating rig simulations
