Requirements:

– Terminal degree or its equivalent in game design, computer art or a related field
– Experience developing interactive media for professional clients and/or shipped video games titles for PC, major consoles and mobile platforms
– Proficiency in industry software such as Adobe Photoshop, Maya, 3D Studio Max, Zbrush, Substance Designer/Painter, Unreal or Unity
– Background in game art direction and development pipelines or programming languages such as C++, Python, Java is a plus
– Familiarity with 3-D printing or technical art pipelines in level design, event scripting, particle effects, animation, and/or shaders is a significant plus
– Professional-level visual art and design production experience preferred
– University-level teaching experience preferred
– Experience teaching and developing online coursework also preferred

Associate Chair of Animation

Description

Join SCAD as the associate chair of animation and provide vision and leadership for the department, and apply your industry experience and expert technical proficiency in the classroom.

In this role, you will develop and teach a unique curriculum that explores animation styles ranging from stop-motion to 3-D animation, includes a focus on digital modeling, rigging, lighting and look development, and extends students’ awareness of story, design, audience and collaboration in production.
Working with the chair of animation and the dean of the School of Digital Media, you will develop, implement and oversee the departmental budget, provide professional development opportunities for professors and create a strategic departmental plan that is consistent with the School of Digital Media’s goals and overall SCAD strategic plan. You will evaluate professors within the department through class observations and reviews of student evaluations, service and professional development opportunities, and contributions to department goals. Additionally, you will assist the admission department with undergraduate recruitment efforts.

A keen understanding of commercial or independent filmmaking is essential to this role, as is the ability to motivate students and faculty to think creatively and critically.

Terminal degree or its equivalent in animation or a related field
Proficiency in state-of-the-art software such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Maya, ZBrush, Toon Boom, Harmony, Unreal or Unity
University-level teaching experience, proven leadership skills and ability to work with students of diverse backgrounds preferred

Description

The core of graphic design at SCAD is design thinking. This fundamentally creative process — thinking by doing — encourages students to see differently, shift focus, look from multiple perspectives and realize how perception influences meaning. The chair of graphic design and visual experience will inspire faculty to guide talented students through this learning process in graphic design and its related disciplines with a focus on visual sophistication and media diversity.

SCAD has a large, vibrant graphic design department aligned with leading trends in emerging media, contemporary approaches to design and professional standards. The position offers numerous opportunities to collaborate with other SCAD departments that are at the forefront of diverse fields. The graphic design chair will develop and extend current interactive choices within the undergraduate and graduate curriculums, meeting critical standards and expectations for the discipline and the profession.
Candidates will be asked to articulate their vision of a graphic design education in the 21st century that will produce designers with research abilities, media diversity, and rich visual sophistication and typography who are able to deliver content over a broad range of systems.

The ideal candidate demonstrates knowledge of interactive theory, interaction design, technologies, platforms and delivery systems as they relate to current practices in graphic and communication design. You should have professional experience as a working graphic designer at a variety of levels as well as be comfortable instructing in cross-disciplinary teams focused on experiential projects. Experience with user-centered experience design and educating at the college level is preferred.
