Sr. VFX Artist

Job Description

The VFX team at Sledgehammer Games is looking for an experienced and passionate Senior VFX artist to join our AAA team. In this position, the artist will work closely with the Lead VFX Artist, Art Director, Technical Art Director, Lighting and Design team to create the most exceptional real-time effects with a focus on hyper realism for our next Call of Duty game. The candidate will have the opportunity to contribute in various areas of in-game effects including weaponry effects, vehicle destruction, large-scale rigid body simulations and environmental effects such as fire, smoke, water, and weather systems.

The ideal candidate should demonstrate a high level of artistic sense and strong technical skills. They should drive hard and challenge themselves with the goal of being masters of the craft.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Working closely with Lead VFX Artist, Art Director and Level Designers to create top notch in-game particle VFX.
Scripting out series of VFX events to drive particle behaviors in runtime using our proprietary scripting language.
Collaborating with prop artists, animators and rigging technical artists to assemble complex layered vehicle destructions and prop destructions using our propriety scripting language and tools.
Building baked rigid body simulation in-game via Maya and our proprietary scripting language and particle tool to replicate structural destruction animations.
Creating textures for particle usage.
Populating environmental VFX in game using our propriety scripting language.
Tackling runtime rendering performance to help maintain the game running at 60FPS.
Resolving technical challenges when arise in order to maintain the highest visual bar.

Qualifications:

At least 5 – 6 years of visual effects development on console hardware (Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3).
Solid professional experience and knowledge of the limitations and performance of current generation hardware (Xbox One, PS4).
Proficient in using Maya and Photoshop.
Experienced in using After Effects.
Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with people across multiple disciplines.
Possesses excellent aesthetic sense with strong attention to detail.
Strong understanding of lighting, compositing, digital photography, color theory, 3D modeling and rigging.
Strong ability in creating atlas textures through simulation.
Experience in using and modifying real-time materials.

Nice to Haves:

Experience with 3DS Max (2013 or newer), FumeFX, Houdini and Pull Down It is a plus.
Strong understanding of real-time physics systems.
Experience with one or more scripting/programming languages.
Experience creating and configuring geometry assets for in game particle systems.

Associate Technical Artist

Job Description

Sledgehammer Games is currently seeking a generalist Associate Technical Artist. This person will join our Tech Art team in helping diagnose and fix problems with content, pipeline tools, and frame rate. The ideal candidate is someone who is organized, creative, motivated, and flexible.

Responsibilities include becoming familiar with how the different pieces of our current pipelines work together and how to best solve problems within that framework, as well as supporting existing pipeline tools. In addition, candidates will be responsible for diagnosing and addressing frame rate issues by working with the team or implementing solutions directly. This position calls for someone who is a good problem solver with a keen attention to detail.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Become skilled with and support our tools and processes for content development – through documentation, teaching, and end user support.
Troubleshoot issues as they arise and offer solutions to help our content teams be more effective.
Learn to write tools for artists and support them throughout production in products such as Maya.

Qualifications:

At least 1 year of professional video games experience, or applicable experience working in the field of computer graphics.
The ability to communicate well with other artists and programmers to troubleshoot issues and technical problems.
Experience with scripting/programming such as Python or C#.
Intimate knowledge of Maya
Portfolio of work showing problem solving techniques and familiarity with content authoring.
A clear understanding of the art production process for different types of assets.

The ideal candidate will:

Work well with artists, gathering requirements on their processes and helping them work through issues they may encounter.
Be a strong problem solver, with a mind for creative solutions.
Have a passion for helping our content developers create high quality visuals.
Be comfortable working with and manipulating texture, mesh, and lighting data inside 3D packages and in intermediate file formats.
