Sledgehammer Games, developers of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, is hiring!

We’re looking for a top-tier Prop Artist to join our team on a temporary basis. Projected project length: 6 months – 1 year. Must be able to work onsite in Foster City – we do assist with relocation.

Description:

If you believe you possess the knowledge and skills to bring props to life for a best in class title, the Environment Art Team at Sledgehammer Games is looking for you. We are looking for an exceptional Prop Artist to join our studio and work alongside our team of passionate environment artists that share the belief that the best game art is yet to come. You’ll work on a variety of tasks, including architecture, destruction, vehicles, machinery and foliage.

Responsibilities:

• Model and texture realistic, modular, hard-surface and organic set pieces and props for a diverse set of environments.
• Create realistic next gen textures and materials for use on architecture and terrain.
• Work from photo reference, style sheets, and concept during the art creation process.
• Adhere to the aesthetic and technical standards set by the Art Director and Environment Lead.
• Take direction from the Art Director and work with the Environment Lead and designers in achieving the overall vision for the game art.

Qualifications:

• Experience creating photorealistic set pieces, props, textures, and materials on next gen console platforms.
• A minimum of 4 years full-cycle console game experience in modeling, texturing, and shading environment assets.
• Two or more published games in an Environment or Prop Artist role.
• Ability to show examples of top notch props and textures made for next gen console games.
• Work well in a large team environment, be proactive, and have excellent communication skills.
• Master level experience creating clean and efficient models with proper UV layouts inside Autodesk Maya.
• Master level experience using Adobe Photoshop to create photorealistic textures for next gen materials based on concepts and/or photo reference.
• Zbrush experience for high-res sculpting and transferring of material maps to in-game mesh.
• Deep understanding of next gen materials and shaders and is able to achieve the desired surface qualities needed across a variety of environment assets.
• Skilled at balancing art quality and performance in the game engine.
• A passion for making great games.

Pluses:

• Organic modeling and texturing experience in Mudbox.
• Experience with Radiant, Unreal, or a similar level building package.

VFX Artist (Temporary)

Description:

The VFX team at Sledgehammer Games is looking for experienced and passionate VFX artists to join our AAA team. In this position, the artists will work closely with the Lead VFX Artist, Art Director, Technical Art Director, Lighting and Design team to create the most exceptional real-time effects with hyper realism for our current project. The candidates will have the opportunity to contribute in various areas of in-game effects including but not excluding weaponry effects, vehicle destruction, large-scaled rigid body simulations and environmental effects such as fire, smoke, water, and weather system.

The ideal candidates should demonstrate a high level of artistic sense and strong technical skills. They should drive hard and challenge themselves with the goal of being masters of the craft.

Responsibilities:

• Working closely with Level Designers and Team Leads to create in-game VFX for stunning environments and exciting game moments.
• Creation of real time particle systems via proprietary software.
• Texture creation using available graphic applications.
• Population of effects in game using a propriety scripting language.
• Solving technical issues that arise with new tools or game performance.

Qualifications:

• At least 2 to 3 years of next-gen visual effects development on console hardware (360, PS3).
• Experience with and a good working knowledge of the limitations and expectations of current generation hardware (360, PS3).
• Excellent working knowledge of Maya and Photoshop.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with both Artists and Programmers.
• Possesses a good art sense (e.g. knowledge of composition, color, 3d modeling and painting).
• Strong texture creation skills.
• Experience in using and modifying real-time materials.

Preferred:

• Experience with Maya’s fluid and rigid body dynamics.
• Experience with After Effects.
• Strong understanding of real-time physics systems.
• Experience with one or more scripting/programming languages.
• Experience creating and configuring geometry assets for in game particle systems.
