Unity Technical Artist – The Third Floor – Los Angeles
The Third Floor is looking for a Unity Technical Artist for a large-scale entertainment project using the Unity Game Engine. The ideal candidate will come with extensive Unity (and preferably also Unreal Engine) experience. They will work within our Immersive team to support development utilizing game engine technology within the Film, Gaming, Theme-Park and VR industries. An emphasis is placed on technical artists with particular knowledge of Lighting and FX work inside Unity.
Contribute to building amazing VR/AR experiences Unity
Support the art team with exporting Art Content (Environments, Props, Animations) from Maya to Unity
Lighting and Shading VR scenes and assets in Unity
Using Unity’s particle system to design and create FX
Create and debug shader and materials graphs throughout production
Working with Unity’s animation system, including controller & state machines
Support the development team with level implementation in Unity
Provide the art team with guidelines for art content creation for Unity
Work with the art team to make levels efficient and meet run-time performance requirements
Help to improve technical pipelines and FX creation techniques/tools
Document, prototype, and improve the art pipeline (desirable)
Must have Inside out knowledge of Unity for 3D
Proficiency working with Maya asset workflows between Maya and Unity
Must have experience with Lighting and Shading in Unity
Experience creating functional levels in Unity
Understanding of the PBR workflow and working with Textures for look development
Some Unity C# scripting skills
Desirable Skills and Experience:
Coding in Python, particularly for Maya to help with tools to improve workflow
Experience producing pipeline tools for Maya and Motion Builder
Experience with character rigging for Unity mechanism
Experience with VR, AR and mobile development is a big plus
Experience with performance profiling in Unity
Experience writing tools and UI panels for Unity
Proven games industry experience, with a Technical Artist credit on at least one published title
Experience with the Substance suite and Substance Automation Tools
Shader coding in HLSL / GLSL
Able to think creatively and resolve technical challenges and limitations.
Excellent communication skills at all levels, both on a technical and creative basis.
Artistically as well as technically inclined
Strong time management & organisation skills.
