Position Description:

A Technical Director (TD) provides critical support to a production’s artists, team leads and supervisors. A TD will design, develop, implement and maintain new tools and processes for a particular project or department. As well, during production a TD will troubleshoot and resolve technical issues as needed to keep production moving forward. Additionally, a TD may be tasked with shot production work when needed and where the shot work appropriately matches the skill set of the TD.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

· Research, design and develop production pipeline tools, workflows and processes in support of stereoscopic CG animated feature films in addition to any other ongoing studio projects.
· Design new systems, maintain existing tools, and support both artists and engineers in their production tasks.
· Interface with other technical Leads in order to collect requirements and architect solutions for tool and library implementations that meet production needs.
· Assist animators and artists in troubleshooting production issues in asset creation and shot production across the entire production pipeline, and help resolve those issues with data or tools fixes as required.
· Support and work with multiple departments, including Modeling, Rigging, Surfacing, Layout, Animation, CFX, Lighting, VFX, Stereo and R&D.
· Work closely with other Technical Directors, Creative Supervisors, and the IT and Production Engineering teams to maintain and further the production pipeline.
· Ensure that all software development follows studio policies and guidelines, aggressively maintain software documentation, and assist in the training and mentoring of other TDs.
· Work effectively in a dynamic and collaborative team environment.
· Effectively understand and debug the existing toolset.

Requirements:

· Experience working with and building tools for Maya, Houdini or any other production modeling, animation or effects software; also, exposure to Yeti or another fur and hair system is a plus.
· Strong programming skills, including proficiency in Python, PyQt, MEL, and Linux shell scripting; C++ or C is also valuable.
· Production experience in computer animation, visual effects or game development.
· Strong R&D experience in artist tool development and toolset integration within existing or new pipelines; a proficiency in mathematics is a definite asset.
· Experience with Nuke, Fusion or other compositing software.
· Experience with Renderman, 3Delight or other Renderman compliant renderers.
· Experience with Tractor, Deadline, Qube or other render farm management software.
· Experience with software version control systems like Mercurial, SVN, Git or other similar structures.
· Ability to establish priorities, work independently or within a group, and work with minimal supervision.
· Exceptional communication skills in dealing with both technical and artistic groups and individuals.
· Exceptional trouble-shooting and problem solving skills.
Education:
·B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering (or equivalent) is preferred.

Other Desired Skills:

· A strong combined technical and creative background with in-depth knowledge of current 2D and 3D computer graphics techniques as they are used in the feature film and media production industries.
· A professional history of collaboration on projects with teams of varied sizes and disciplines.
· RI filtering experience with Renderman compliant renderers.
· UI development experience with PyQt or wxPython.

Position: Assistant Production Manager
Reports to: Production Manager/Producer

Position Description:

Manage the day-to-day operation of the production departments including crew scheduling, production scheduling, tracking and budgeting of man weeks. Also responsible for ensuring the projected parameters for production goals, quotas and schedule are met and/or reset as required (if applicable). The Assistant Production Manager may also manage the Production Coordinators and work with Team Leads to maintain the proper amount of resources throughout the production’s various departments during visual development and pre-production.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

SCHEDULING

· Macro schedule- work with Producer/CG Supervisor using budgeted assumptions, breakdown and create a more detailed departmental schedule with the focus on assets through layout/animation testing during visual development.
· Manage assigned departments to ensure resources are on target.
· Create and analyze production reports per department and work with Producer/Production Manager to develop a weekly production status report.
· Breakdown story reel to plan for new work to be produced. Schedule out work in partnership with Producer, and CG Supervisor as necessary.
· Support Producer/Production Manager in terms of defining specific start dates for new hires. Partner with Producer/Production Manager (and Recruiting) to ensure start up agendas and packages are prepared for all new hires.
· Handle departmental schedules only.
· Identify schedule variances and monitor changes incurred from approved production plan; recommend corrective action as necessary.

TRACKING

· Oversee the tracking of assigned quotas for given department
· Update the file management system as necessary
· Ensure that the file management and/or tracking system is being used properly. Check all data for accuracy and to ensure the project is on track.
· Ensure artists are tracking their output and addressing their notes correctly.
· Take notes at meetings and rounds and distribute to the artists
· Ensure staffs attend appropriate meetings and rounds

PRODUCTION

· Prepare and distribute weekly production reports to all applicable people.
·Provide Line Producer/Producer/Production Manager with activity reports on a weekly basis.
· Make recommendations for improvements to production and pipeline systems, particularly with-respect-to scheduling, and flow of information, milestone realization, and resource management.

· Help to achieve and balance creative and operational goals of the project.
· Identify production issues and proactively loopback this information to production.

SUPERVISION / COMMUNICATION

· Work with Producer/Production Manager to define roles and a communication plan for the Production team.
·Manage applicable coordinators/staff to ensure that they are on track with quotas and scheduling for their crews; provide regular, constructive performance feedback (note-taking).
· Creatively solve problems, eliminate roadblocks and focus on issues at hand.
· Communicate any scheduling and/or quota issues to the Line Producer/Producer/Production Manager; proactively encourage open communication between the team and other departments.
· Ensure End of Show reviews are complete for the entire crew (as applicable).

OTHER

· Liaise with Overseas Manager to ensure Input/output requirements are delivered between studios.
· Liaise with Facilities Coordinator to ensure adequate resources (i.e. furnishings, lighting, and stationery supplies/items) for the production.
· Approve weekly timesheets and ensure they are delivered to the HR Manager on time.

Required Skills and Experience:

· Project management – proven ability in managing projects from concept to completion. Able to prioritize appropriately and always meet deadlines.
· Excellent teamwork – ability to assemble and motivate teams and work effectively with others.
· Strong written & verbal communication – ability to interact with and integrate requests of directors; good at following directions.

Qualifications:

· Experience in traditional 2D and 3D animation production.
· Minimum 5 years of animation/industry experience.
· Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in Production Management.
· Proficient in MS office suites including Excel and Word.
· Overseas animation experiences a bonus.

Description

Position: Storyboard Artist
Reports to: Lead Story Artist

Position Description and Responsibilities:

· collaborate with the Director/Lead Story Artist to explore and develop the visual story of THE NUT JOB 2 a 3D feature film production slated for theatrical release.
. To listen to the director’s verbal description/launch of sequences and shots and realize character action /pacing/mood/cinematography in visual form.
. To create new and interesting ideas to capture both the activity and the emotion of the scene.
· To present and lead the visual direction of story sequences via contributing to sequence/board production while concurrently overseeing a team of storyboard artists.
. To self-manage timelines to ensure all sequences are cast, completed and submitted on schedule.
. To revise, edit and modify sketches as indicated by the Lead Story Artist.
. To implement various computer programs to enhance the visual presentation of ideas for the scene or for effectively capturing the director’s ideas for shots/sequences.
· To streamline or eliminate unnecessary scenes and filming requirements from the production.
· To assist with visual exploration, research, and/or creation of design (character/environments/props) as required by the story during visual development/pre-production
· To maintain awareness of the broader show needs as they relate to aspects of art and design and related revisions which include, but are not limited, to stereoscopy;
. To work in adherence to budget and schedule constraints while maintaining continuity within the story, cinematography, aesthetics, mood.

Required Skills:

· Good understanding of layout, composition, sequential drawing and editing.
· Ability to visualise perspective and 3-dimensional space.
· Work either independently or as part of a team.
· Take direction, and also be prepared to make changes to their work.
· Good drawing skills, and must be able to follow an established design style, if required.
· Good communication and presentation skills are essential.
· Depending on the project, basic computer literacy, and familiarity with relevant storyboard software may be required.
