3D General Artist

Looking to work with the entire palette as an artist to create visually stunning demos for Unity’s worldwide community? Unity is searching for talented and self-motivated 3D General Artist with the artistic passion to create imaginative and memorable art for demo productions showcasing Unity features on various platforms.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a team of highly dedicated colleagues and shape your own professional destiny. Broaden your skill set through a wide scope of tasks, and enjoy true creative freedom in an informal surrounding where your ideas and visual drive is welcomed and recognized.

Education and Relevant Experience

Modelling and texturing using Maya/Max and ZBrush/Mudbox;
Photoshop and textures;
Knowledge and application of ambience, lighting, composition and style;
Ability to optimize art within performance and memory budgets, restrictions and optimizations;
Experience with shaders and post effects;
Visual effects, particle systems and physics;
Basic skills in drawing and sketching; and
Experience with skin shaders and offline rendering.

Nice-to-Haves

Fundamental animation, skinning and rigging skills.
Scripting such as JavaScript, MEL, MaxScript, HLSL etc.

Goals and Responsibilities

Design and build graphically appealing worlds – settings and environments.
Collaborate with programmers on visual feature development, functionality and tools.

Skills and Abilities

Impeccable collaboration and communication skills;
An artistic eye for detail and focus on delivering highest quality;
Ability to research, evaluate, and learn from competitive products;
You have shipped titles and have knowledge of game development process;
Experience using and re-creating references for real-time engines and
Investigative mindset; enjoy technical problem solving.

This position is based in Stockholm, Sweden. Applicant should be willing to relocate.

Character Artist – Demos

Unity’s Stockholm team focus on creating visually-stunning content that showcase the power and capacity of the Unity game engine. Our world-class team have removed the shackles of long development cycles to work on projects that push boundaries and unleash imagination – focusing on cool, creative projects that demonstrate Unity’s commitment to shipping incredible content.

Things you will work on:

Develop, design and oversee characters for Unity showcases;
Feedback and help improving character workflows in Unity.

Skills and Abilities:

Long experience with Skin shaders and Sub-Surface-Scattering;
Complete understanding of hair and fur, shaders and rendering;
Ability to create unique and realistic characters based on concept art and references;
Thorough knowledge of anatomy;
Visualize ideas using concepts and references.

Requirements:

Experience with high-poly characters in real-time or offline graphics;
Experience rigging, skinning and setting up the characters for animation.

Application should include high and low-poly models, textures layouts, renders and demonstrate examples of bullet-points mentioned above.

Software packages:

Maya
Photoshop
Z-brush or equivalent
Retopology tools

Nice-to-Haves:

Experience with Javascript, Python, Lua or equivalent;
Scripting skills in 3D packages with Mel, Maxscript, etc.

Things you will work on:

Rig, mo-cap, animate faces and bodies for Unity showcases;
Master and push the limits of new Unity animation system;
Feedback and help improving Unity animation related functionality, API and workflows.

Skills and Abilities:

Excellent understanding of the animation principles;
Experience with various animation practices;
Ability to build custom rigs.

Requirements:

Experience with animation in the games industry;
Experience with setting up/working with animation blending trees and/or state machines;
Experience working with motion capture, recording and editing;
Programming skills in JavaScript or C#.

Software packages:

Autodesk Motionbuilder

Nice-to-Haves:

Create, implement and improve visual effects in Unity showcases;
Feedback and help improving workflows and performance of VFX related features of Unity.

Skills and Abilities:

Understanding of hardware and engine limitations, profiling and performance analyzing;
Understanding of art direction, ambience and mood;
Good communication and visualisation skills, good team player with a can-do attitude;
Accustomed to working with references and an inquisitive personality for groundbreaking VFX and features;
Solid technical know-how and an ability to find unconventional solutions.

Requirements:

Experience with realtime graphics as well as offline rendering;
Experience with Particle systems and expressions;
Knowledge of dynamics and Rigid Body physics;
Understanding of fracturing and destruction;
Experience with Fluid simulation packages;
Experience with Post-FX.

Software packages:

Realflow, and/or Naiad;
AfterFX and plugins/extensions;
FumeFX, and/or Krakatoa;
Rayfire, Bullet or similar packages.

Nice-to-Haves:

Experience with Javascript, Python, Lua or equivalent;
