2014 Production Summer Intern – Look Development Artist

Expand your skillset into the world of animation! Walt Disney Animation Studios Summer Internship Program is an eight-week experience designed for students studying art, design, animation, computer graphics, graphics engineering, film & media, and production management. As a Walt Disney Animation Studios intern, you will have the unique opportunity to work directly with a Disney mentor as you explore all aspects of art, storytelling, and filmmaking. This immersive program offers hands-on experience focused on individual craft and multidisciplinary team collaboration.

The 2014 Summer Intern program will be held at our Burbank, CA studio starting Monday, TBD, 2014.

Application Requirements:

Look Development Artists create the look of CG characters, environments and props. This includes painting texture maps (e.g. color maps, specular maps, displacement maps, etc.), tuning shader parameters to define materials, grooming hair, growing vegetation, and working with Technical Directors. Look Development artists should have a great eye and exceptional critical thinking in image deconstruction.

You must be a current student returning to school in the Fall of 2014

Reels/portfolios/demonstrated skills should include:

Texture samples displayed both applied to a model and separated into component layers
Strong composition and the ability to render finished details
Demonstrated facility with high-end 3D paint packages (StudioPaint, Photoshop, Painter)
Shader samples is a plus; knowledge of ray trace rendering and RSL a plus

Technical Directors strategize solutions to a range of production and pipeline issues. These artists write scripts, adapt tools, and modify workflows in support of artistic endeavors. You will work directly with artists and software developers to solve problems and implement new techniques.

Facility with Python and C++
Familiarity with MEL and RSL a plus
Understanding of commercial production software such as Photoshop, Maya, Houdini, Nuke, and Ray Trace Rendering Software

Ability to take initiative, prioritize, meet deadlines, and work in a team setting
