2014 Summer Intern – Animation Research Library Internship

Expand your skillset into the world of animation! Walt Disney Animation Studios Summer Internship Program is an eight-week experience designed for students studying art, design, animation, computer graphics, graphics engineering, film & media, and production management. As a Walt Disney Animation Studios intern, you will have the unique opportunity to work directly with a Disney mentor as you explore all aspects of art, storytelling, and filmmaking. This immersive program offers hands-on experience focused on individual craft and multidisciplinary team collaboration.

The 2014 Summer Intern program will be held at our Burbank, CA studio starting Monday, TBD, 2014.

The Walt Disney Studios encompasses the creation, production, promotion, sales, acquisition and domestic and international distribution of live-action and animated motion pictures, DVD releases, live stage plays, and music and soundtrack recordings.

We currently have an opportunity for an Undergraduate Intern to work with our Animation Research Library team for the summer. The Animation Research Library houses a collection of more than 65,000,000 pieces of original animation artwork. The ARL serves as a significant resource within The Walt Disney Company by conserving and protecting the art used to create Walt Disney Animation Studios produced and un-produced feature films and shorts, housing circulating and non-circulating media for pre-production and reference, and utilizing these materials in displays, for product development, inspiration, reference and production to promote the image and profitability of The Walt Disney Company.

Responsibilities:

There is an undeniable power behind dynamic visual design. This is a fun and unique opportunity for an intern to take their creative talent to the next level at the Walt Disney Animation Studios, Animation Research Library (ARL). Our design summer intern will learn and engage their growing skill set in terms of exhibition layout, design, color, and typography.

The successful candidate will work closely with the ARL’s graphic design team to create materials for exhibits, displays, and printed collateral. The intern will be exposed to the department’s day-to-day operations in order to foster the student’s professional development and understanding of the industry. In addition to assisting the Design group with everyday tasks, interns will attend weekly meetings and events and will be able to attend classes and screenings with approval.

Project work will include:

Collaborate with the ARL Design team on large-scale projects and assist with graphics and layouts for small-scale exhibitions for theme-parks and other related projects, Assist with printing related material and learn more about color, Take part in the creative process to utilize animation art assets in collaboration with many different Disney divisions , Learn from industry professional graphic designers about best practices in the entertainment industry

Qualifications:

Successful candidates will come to the role with a strong background in graphic arts
Prior experience creating graphics and a solid grasp of design concepts
Comfort working in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator
Enthusiasm for the design process and attentiveness to different project goals
Collaborative and willing spirit to work with design team members on project

The Walt Disney Animation Studios Web and Graphics Intern will design and create various deliverables in a team-oriented, highly-creative environment focused on studio branding and production departments. The ideal candidate is connected to the latest web programs, loves great design, environmental spacial design and possibilities, communication graphics, social media design, and problem solving.

Through design aesthetics – we affect our external brand identity, our internal studio identity, and overall communication. We deliver these messages through imagery, copy, as well as web design and navigation. Our emphasis on good design principles and aesthetics inspires our highly-creative and technical studio.

Experiment with new formats, design directions, and ideas
Understand and interpret animation pipeline and production deliverables and create a multitude of presentations featuring multimedia, graphs, images, and presentation videos
Acquire all clearances of all efforts concerning the branding and marketing of our properties with Marketing, Publicity, Business and Legal Affairs, Production Leads
