Rigging Artist – Intermediate

We are currently seeking an Intermediate Rigging Artist for our Vancouver studio. This is a project-based position working on a variety of projects and assets within a Rigging Department. The Rigging Artist reports to the Rigging Supervisor.
The ideal candidate will have strong MAYA skills, a good grasp of scripting, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in any given day. The Rigging Artist will be a part of the Rigging & Animation team and in regular contact with other department leads; good communication and problem solving skills are mandatory.

Responsibilities & Qualifications:

Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Rigger within live action VFX studio
Create realistic FK/IK rigs for a variety of humanoids, creature, and mechanical models
Thorough knowledge of weighting and skinning demonstrated
Ability to rig a variety of characters / objects in a realistic, non-cartoon manner
Assist in the creation of new rigs and rig components
Perform rig fixes and troubleshooting during production as requested by Character Supervisor
Solid knowledge of Character set-up and rigging tools in Maya
Production experience with Deformers, Constraints, Hierarchies, Utility Nodes, Expressions, Hair & Cloth
Experience in Python in Maya
Must have experience with scripting (Python, Mel)
Knowledge of Maya Api, PyQt, Pyside a plus
Knowledge of anatomy and a understanding of bio-mechanics, for humanoid and animals
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work within a fast-paced team environment
Experience mentoring junior artists
Positive attitude and flexible schedule
Must showcase an up-to-date demo reel demonstrating rigging abilities.

The role of the 3D Asset Artist includes a variety of asset creation within films, stream-series and broadcast television projects.

Requirements and Qualifications:

Create high quality 3D assets with emphasis on characters & environments.
Minimum 5 years of experience in a modeling/texture/shading role within live action VFX
Experience in shading using both templates and creating from scratch
Ability to create photo realistic tile-able textures & hand painted custom maps
Extensive experience in sculpting
Look Dev Shader experience ( Vray / Maya )
2D / 3D texturing experience ( MARI / Zbrush / Photoshop )
Organic modeling experience including landscapes, vegetation, digi-doubles
Experience in Nuke, SpeedTree, Terragen and Yeti an asset.
Excellent English communication skills both verbal and written.
Ability to clearly communicate with Leads and other disciplines within your team.
Highly organized
Problem solving capabilities with a “solution-driven” attitude
Strong attention to detail and follow through

Training and Render TD (Technical Director)

We apply these principles to our work on some of the most VFX intensive film and television projects out there.

Summary of Position

We are currently seeking a Training and Rendering TD (Technical Director) in our Culver City studio who will be responsible for debugging, fixing, and optimizing artist scenes as well as training artists on current and new proprietary pipeline tools to facilitate delivering high-quality visual effects in tight deadlines. The ideal candidate has a passion for thoroughly investigating and solving complex puzzles, a love of learning new technology, and a high aptitude for communicating information between technical and non-technical personnel. This position reports to the Pipeline Managers. In addition, this position frequently interacts with the 3D and 2D Supervisors and Leads to facilitate the sharing of new tools and techniques between all office locations. This is a full-time freelance position that could evolve into a full-time staff position in the future.

Responsibilities

Optimize artists’ scenes from V-Ray, Mantra, and other ray tracers to render successfully within allotted time frame to maximize efficiency on the farm.
Debug and repair problematic scenes from Maya, Houdini, Nuke, and other packages related to asset creation, shot assembly, lighting, rendering, and other disciplines.
Provide troubleshooting and technical solutions for day to day production problems.
Utilize currently available proprietary tools to solve pipeline issues and on occasion develop new small-scale tools to address project or facility issues.
Diagnose technical issues from tickets and address them directly or escalate to the Pipeline Managers.
Train new artist hires on how to use proprietary pipeline tools and workflows during on-boarding.
Stay up-to-date on latest proprietary pipeline tools and workflows from all office locations and regularly train artists on these new developments.
Write artist-friendly documentation for pipeline tools and workflows and create tutorial videos for artists and production.
Generate reports regarding render hours and other pipeline statistics.
Take on other tasks in the Pipeline department as required.
Travel between all Zoic office locations, as necessary.

Qualifications

2+ years of experience working on VFX or feature animation productions using Maya and V-Ray required
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in VFX, Animation, Computer Graphics, Computer Science, Technical Communication, Technical Writing, or related field
Experience debugging other users’ scene files and renders
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to troubleshoot and work independently on projects without supervision
Proactive team member with positive ‘can do!’ attitude even in high pressure situations
Some experience using Houdini, Nuke, Yeti, Lightwave, or Terragen a plus
Some experience using render queuing software a plus
Basic Python scripting a plus
Ability to work extended evening and weekend hours to meet production needs when required

*Must be able to work onsite at Culver City location. Candidates currently residing in Los Angeles a plus as we do not cover relocation/housing.

Compositors

Our Culver City, CA location is currently seeking compositors with strong shot finishing skills for a variety of different episodic television series for clients like Hulu, NBC, Netflix, and CBS.
Compositors will work in a team environment taking direction from the Creative Director, VFX Supervisor, and 2D lead on high volume episodic projects.
The ideal candidate should have experience using Nuke in production. Strong CG integration experience is also a major plus. Must work well in a small team environment and take directions well in a quick turn-around time frame.

Minimum Requirements:

3+ years of Nuke Compositing experience with medium and large scale productions
Rig Removals, Green Screen Comps, Clean-up, Roto, Driving Comps, Monitor Burns, Set Extensions
Solid knowledge of CG integration with multi-pass EXR

Additional Qualifications:

Knowledge of projection, matte painting integration, CG integration, EXR integration, rig removal
Excellent understanding of 3D multi-pass rendering techniques and color space concepts
Expert eye for color and composition
Ability to take artistic direction
Works well with tight deadlines
Organized, with excellent written and verbal communication skills
