Our Vancouver location is currently seeking a Senior FX TD.

The Senior FX TD reports to the FX Supervisor and is the technical point of contact for the FX Department. They create technically efficient methodologies and solutions to FX simulations, renders and tools. They also work closely with Pipeline, IT and Render Management teams.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Develop, create and implement technically efficient toolsets, workflows and methodologies which help to create, simulate and render various effects from simple to highly complex.
Understand and work within the studio/show structure / pipeline and resources. Work with Pipeline and IT to improve these processes and resolve issues.
Develop and integrate new streamlined procedures/tools into existing or new scenes to improve simulations or renders and data output
Assess current methods and workflows and benchmark for efficiency
Debug scenes and optimize settings to reduce simulation, render times, and data output
Follow the technical direction set forth by the FX Supervisor on the needs of the department and production.
Stays current with latest technologies, methods, and workflows
Educate artists on good practices, efficient methods and workflows
Share knowledge & mentor junior artists.

Qualifications:

Minimum 8 years’ experience as FX TD within live action film and television projects.
Additional past experience in vfx studio in related role.
Senior level knowledge of and proven ability to develop Houdini specific toolsets and some Maya development understanding.
Senior level experience with Houdini in developing or extending pipeline procedures/scripts.
Adaptable to change of direction during production and in tight deadlines.
Senior level knowledge & experience of Houdini and Mantra.
Proficient in other renderers such as VRay, RenderMan, Arnold.
Excellent ability, and past experience to document developed technologies and reports.
Attention to available resources and thorough understanding of optimization in order to maximize resource availability and capability.
Strong technical knowledge for problem solving within vfx pipeline.
Experience in coding/scripting with current production languages (within vfx studio) I.e.: Python, VEX, Hscript, C++, and Mel.
Thorough understanding of rendering and shading techniques and procedures.
Understanding of breakout layers for compositing and ability to slap comp FX passes
Working knowledge of Nuke.
Knowledge of Nuke scripting an asset.
Computer Science Degree or other advanced technical training an asset.
Ability to work under tight deadlines in order to help artists deliver simulations, caches and renders on time.
Deep understanding of Data formats, disk IO, Complex Render Dependencies.
Knowledge and understanding of CPU and Memory usage/capacity on large Data Sets.
Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written.
Positive attitude.
Highly organized.
Strong attention to detail and follow through.
Experience in fast pace environment.
Must showcase a comprehensive reel demonstrating FX TD capabilities as outlined.

Department Coordinator – Dynamics & FX

Our Vancouver, BC location is currently seeking an FX Department Coordinator.

Summary of Position:

The ideal candidate will have previous VFX production and coordination experience, a good understanding of the VFX pipeline, specifically Dynamics & FX. They must be able to help organize a creative team and ensure shots are being tracked and delivered according to set milestones. The FX Department Coordinator reports to the VFX Supervisor and Heads of Production.

Requirements & Qualifications:

Min. 2 + years of coordination experience on live action television and/or feature production.
Able to effectively use Shotgun as your primary note tracking & project management tool.
Experience with MS Office including Word, Excel & Outlook.
Experience in Hiero an asset
Understanding of Houdini and/or Maya preferred.
Must be organized and highly detail oriented.
Excellent communications skills in English; both verbal and written.
Able to manage different personalities within a shared department of artists.
Excellent prioritization/conflict resolution/negotiation skills to balance the resource needs.
Able to display diplomacy & level headed solutions oriented problem solving in all situations.
Track progress of assigned work.
Maintain a Gant Chart of resources needed over time and ensure communication to other departments.
Flag any resource conflicts and provide information and suggestions on how resources may be best allotted.
Keep Shotgun up-to-date for department notes and statuses, update calendars, schedules, notes, etc.
Participate in meetings as required and follow up on notes and action items.
Inform show producers and supervisor of the status of their effects.
Inform HOPs and facility supervisors of department issues that are not show-specific.
Maintain current list of all task assignments (through Shotgun and other means.)
Make sure artists are aware of targets and ensure required material is available.
Manage render farm priorities: work with crew to establish render needs.
Submit OT requests for all department members for approval.
Ensure that performance management meetings are scheduled regularly between FX Supervisor and artists.
Act as a strong communication bridge between show production and assigned department artists.
Work with the FX Supervisor to ensure that shots/assets completed by your team meet the continuity and quality standards for the project.
Enable your team to meet internal and external deadlines within assigned hours.
Contribute to making the studio a positive work environment.

Senior Character FX Artist

Our Vancouver studios is looking for an experienced Character FX Artist to join our team in order to work on multiple projects that includes television, streamed series and films. This is a project based, full time position.

The Senior CFX Artist is experienced in all areas of animation and has held previous positions within an FX or Character FX team. The CFX Artist will work closely with the project supervisors as well as the Rigging Supervisor and Animation Supervisor with respect to best artistic and technical approach associated with each character & creature.

Responsibilities:

Set up and adjust hair grooms and cloth simulations using Yeti and Maya nCloth
Complete character FX work on a shot per shot basis
Check for and fix penetration and intersection problems
Check for and fix continuity issues
Ensure that all shot assets are cached and shaded for lighting
Identify, and correct, any problems with cached geometry
Ensure that all shot assets can be cached and put into the lighting pipeline
Mentor artists

Qualifications:

8+ years relevant experience in a VFX, live action studio (TV and/or Features)
Senior level experience in Vray, Maya, Yeti & nCloth
In-depth knowledge of rigging
Senior level experience with hair, fur and dynamics
Senior level ability to light in Vray and take CFX to final
High level of understanding for physically based simulation
Knowledge of Marvelous Designer as asset
Knowledge of MEL, Python and C++ an asset
Must be a collaborative team player and problem solver
Must be meticulous and organized with asset management
Must be able to clearly communicate technical and artistic ideas
Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal

We are seeking a Senior Rigging Artist for our Vancouver studio. This is a project-based position working on a variety of projects and assets within a Rigging Department. The Senior Rigging Artist reports to the Rigging Supervisor.
The ideal candidate will have expert MAYA skills, extensive experience in scripting, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in any given day. The Senior Rigging Artist will be a part of the Rigging & Animation team and in regular contact with other department leads; good communication and problem solving skills are mandatory.

Responsibilities & Qualifications:

Minimum 8 years’ experience as a Rigger within a live action VFX studio in TV and/or film.
Create new rigs and rig components.
Create realistic FK/IK rigs for a variety of humanoids, creature, and mechanical models.
Perform rig fixes and troubleshooting during production as requested by Character Supervisor
Senior level knowledge of weighting and skinning demonstrated.
Senior level ability to rig a variety of characters / objects in a realistic (non-cartoon manner)
Senior level knowledge of Character set-up and rigging tools in Maya.
Production experience with Deformers, Constraints, Hierarchies, Utility Nodes, Expressions, Hair & Cloth.
Experience in Python in Maya.
Must have experience with scripting (Python, Mel).
Knowledge of Api, PyQt, Pyside a plus.
Knowledge & previous experience of anatomy and an understanding of bio-mechanics, for humanoid and animals.
Excellent communication skills in English; both written and verbal.
Ability to work within a fast-paced team environment.

Must be proficient in Nuke
A minimum of 8 years live action visual effects compositing experience.
Senior level knowledge of projection, matte painting integration, CG integration, EXR integration, rig removal
Senior level knowledge and experience in 3D multi-pass rendering techniques and colour space concepts
Working knowledge of Maya preferred
Expert eye for colour and composition
Ability to take artistic direction and take shots to final.
Works well with tight deadlines
Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English)
Highly organized
Problem solving capabilities with a “solution-driven” attitude
Strong attention to detail and follow through
Experience in fast pace environment
