The set is the campus from Monsters University, weighing in at 27.5 million triangles. The light setup is a single env light with the luxo hdri, rendered in RIS with the path tracer. (No irradiance.) PRMan eats this scene for breakfast. Really just shows how robust the RIS ray tracer is.
Interactive Subsurface Scattering
In this video subsurface scattering is demonstrated using the skin shader from RenderMan For Maya on an Alien from Toy Story. It shows an artist friendly workflow. I disabled irradiance to accentuate the effect of SSS, and for speed. Note irradiance is enabled for the finished renders at the end of the clip.
